Pretty symmetric garden with grand sculptures
Beautiful sculptures adore the Mirabell Palace and garden with the Pegasus fountain taking the centre stage. The garden design was very attractive with its symmetry in layout and geometry. The broad strip of space looked beautiful with the blooms adding colour and elegance. It was a place to appreciate Baroque Garden style in the heart of Salzburg.

    Very popular world heritage site.
The Mirabella Palace is a UNESCO heritage site and world famous thanks to the film TSOM. Built in 1606 by Prince Archbishop Raitenau for his mistress and their 15 children. In 1721 everything was rebuilt in the current Baroque style according to plans by Hildebrandt. The castle has had many other functions and the last achievement was the wedding party of Eva Braun's sister in the presence of all Nazi leaders. The marble hall is particularly beautiful. To view it, it is best to book one of the daily concerts. The garden appears almost entirely in The Sound of Music film and is also quite nice to relax in when the weather is good.

The location where you can smell the music everywhere
Located in Scherzburg, Austria, it is one of the filming locations for the movie "Sounds of Music". Free admission. We visited in April. The weather was very good, neither cold nor hot, but there were many tourists, so you need to be patient when taking photos.

A worthwhile visit to stunning gardens
The gardens are a short walk from the Salzburg old town, across the river. I would highly recommend visiting! The gardens are amazing, and we spent about an hour wandering around. A lot of work has gone into maintaining the gardens. We visited as a family, and the kids enjoyed the experience too.

    Beautiful Palace and Gardens
Schloss MIrabell (Mirabell Palace) and its gardens are an UNESCO World Heritage site. It was built in 1608 for the Prince Archbishop and his mistress so that he could avoid walking through downtown because he had some health problems. It was originally named Schloss Altenau; but later renamed Schloss Mirabell, taking its name from the Italian word for beautiful. The garden was featured in The Sound of Music.

    Beautiful garden
Beautiful gardens, we really enjoyed seeing this in Salzburg, as part of a guided tour. Lots of wonderful flowers and statuary. There’s also a Sound of Music connection, with some scenes having been filmed here. Well worth your time to visit. (We did not tour the palace.)

Best in the morning - if you want to avoid crowds
This is a lovely spot with exquisitely manicured gardens and tons of sculpture. If you are heading to Salzburg this is a "don't miss" venue. The crowds are much thinner in the morning and you'll have the opportunity to get better pics with less people blocking your angles.

    Baroque in all its glory
Mirabel is a female Italian given name that consists of two words: “mirabile” which means “worthy of admiration” and “bella” which means “beautiful”. Mirabel Palace was built in 1606 by order of Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich for his lover Salome Alt. In turn, Mirabel Park was rebuilt around 1690 during the reign of Prince-Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun. The basic geometric shape typical of the Baroque is still present. The special location of the park, optically oriented towards the Cathedral and Fortress, has a grand effect and at the same time includes it in the overall picture of the historical appearance of the city.

    Very beautiful and peaceful
We wandered into “new town” today after spending the morning shopping in “old town.” It was beautiful out so staying indoors at one of the many palaces, castles, museums etc wasn’t appealing. So the decision was made to go check out the gardens. They are quite expansive with little areas that focus on different flowers/plants/sculptures. The gardens are quite peaceful and it’s easy to find quiet spots to rest and take it all in.

    Spettacolare!!!
Enchanted place, huge garden with caves and really amazing water features considering they date back to the '600! huge Italian garden with huge ponds. Add to this the different nature trails inside, excellent for trekking lovers. Entrance ticket 15 euros per person including the area with water features, the visit of the palace and the ethnographic museum. Tutto tenuto splendidamente pulizia assoluta! Insomma un paradiso! Within the palace area there are also several places to stop for lunch and/or refreshments. I highly recommend this attraction if you are in Salzburg.

We had planned to go on a Sunday but then realized that the palace it's not open that day. It currently houses the Mayor's office and (presumably as a result) the full building is not open to the public. However, you can enter the building without a ticket and the gardens are certainly free to visit. So all of the tours offering to take you here for "only $$ per person" are basically ripping you off. The limited places we did see inside the building were interesting and fun to imagine what life might have been like there in the 1700s or 1800s. But the exterior/gardens are the best part of the Palace in my opinion. It can be crowded, so getting there early is probably your best bet. Be sure to check out the dwarf garden with its interesting statues.

Whilst we didn't go into Schloss Mirabell we spent some very enjoyable time in the Mirabellgarten on a recent visit to Salzburg. I would love to come here again and spend more time here, including going into the Schloss but if you are on a day trip as we were you can spend a pleasant few hours here easily.

The gardens are free to enter and are situated about 1.5km from the bus depot (if on an organised trip) and maybe just over a kilometre from Salzburg 'centre'. I didn't see many signposts for it, but it was easy to find via Google Maps. There are a few restaurants/cafes outside the garden area which were very busy, but I didn't see any options for food and drink in the gardens themselves - including options to refill water bottles.

We visited in late August and whilst some of the flowers were past their best it was still a really lovely presentation.

The gardens are VERY busy, and in some major photograph hotspots (e.g. the famous steps) you'll have to wait to get a picture and even then you will have people in the near background so just be aware of that. Despite the busy grounds though, the gardens were still really peaceful and there is plenty of seating (though some areas have more than others).

Visiting Mirabell without a guide is free of charge, concerts are held in the marble hall. The palace and its gardens are very famous, one of the must-see sights in Salzburg. The gardens are definitely for spring and summer, as they are not open much in winter.

This is garden that is free to visit in Salzburg. Take your time wandering through the garden. There is one room open to the public: the marble hall. We just entered the building and had a private viewing of the hall. We were fortunate to avoid the many tour groups that overcrowd many locations around the city. If you do get stuck with a tour group flooding the garden, be patient and wait it out. They have to keep moving with their group and will not be there long!

A visit to Salzburg after a carriage ride through the streets of the city is a must. Among fountains, statues and manicured flower beds you can walk with pleasure. There is also a fragrant rose garden. There are also several benches in shaded areas though almost all occupied. Despite the heat I recommend it because it is a nice sight for the eyes of the Italian style gardens in the heart of Austria. In addition there is also a beautiful view in the distance of the town fortress. Entrance to the gardens is free.

Although I didn't spend much time in Saltzburg itself as I was only there for a whole day & two nights, this was such a beautiful Palace and Gardens in the central part of Saltzburg. The Palace interior looked really nice and it was lovely to go inside and see one of the concert halls upstairs and the gardens outside looked so beautiful and well maintained with lots of statues, fountains and flowers.

Not to mention the palace & gardens were also one of the filming sites of The Sound of Music film & also more significant to Mozart's music but even without those facts, both the Palace & Gardens were great in their own ways & perhaps my main highlight of my brief visit to Saltzburg - hopefully in future I can return there for a longer period of time. Another thing worth noting is that the area is just a short walk from the buses so easily accessible by public transport, the other city centre attractions and the river.

The well manicured grounds of Mirabell Garden in Salzburg is definitely can’t miss stop. Free admission. Not only is this where young Mozart held private concerts, scenes from the famous movie “The Sound of Music” were filmed here also. Central to the garden is a unique fountain. Surrounding this large fountain in Mirabell Gardens are four statues sculpted by Ottavio Mosto in 1690. The statues represents the four elements of earth, wind, fire and water. The four sculptures are “The rape of Prosperina,” “The rape of Helena,” “Aeneas and Anchises,” and “Hercules and Antaeus.” Another not to miss is the Pegasus Fountain where the Von Trapp children skipped around the circular lip while singing ‘Do Re Mi‘ in the Sound of Music. The long pergola ivy vine tunnel where the actors ran through were leafless because it was November. Nonetheless, you can pretend hopping and skipping through there as in the movie.

If you happen to be here during the Christmas holidays don't miss the concerts they give in these halls. For the rest the palace is home to public offices and therefore the visit was limited. The gardens which are open to the public are certainly worth a visit during the summer period, but since one of the Christmas markets takes place in that area it is worth visiting them.

Mirabell Gardens is a nice place to walk. There are beautifully arranged ornamental flower beds, fountains, sculptures, benches where you can sit and enjoy the beauty of this place. There is a wonderful view of Hohensalzburg Castle from here. Entrance to the gardens is free.
