I started working in Tourism in 2010 by riding a Rikscha. In 2018 I finished tour guide school and proudly presented the first free walking tours to Salzburg. Equipped with the necessary knowledge we are now a team of guides keen on meeting and guiding you. A great 1.5-2 hour tour led by Leo who made it both entertaining and informative. You will be introduced the history of this beautiful city and be amazed at how knowledgeable the tour guide was. In addition to knowing the history of the city, you would also get recommendations on local restaurants/cafes, which is always a plus point for solo travellers like me.
I'd say if even you are only in Salzburg for a short time, definitely add this tour to your itinerary, it will give you a brief idea of what the city has to offer.
P.S. A big hand to Leo for still continuing the tour even it's raining cats and dogs!! I have to say this is the best customer service I've ever came across ahahhahha

This was a fascinating & informative tour of Salzburg from Sonja. Her knowledge was excellent & she took time to explain any questions asked and the whole group seemed as enthralled as I was. Even if you have to been to Salzburg before, this is one tour I would recommend to take time to enjoy what the city & it's history has to offer. A BIG thank you Sonja.

Gerhard has conceived a tour that condenses in 1.5 hours the most relevant sites and monuments in Salzburg. We contacted him through internet and it is easy to find the meeting point. I appreciate it is an early tour starting at 9h in order to avoid crowds. He wisely combines historical, architectural and social information with a little bit of sense of humour. It is rather balanced so you cannot get bored with long explanations. A lot of explanations were given regarding The sounds of music film. He provides very useful hints about what it is interesting and not regarding paying an entrance fee. He provides explanations supported with some paper images and a useful map which is handed out to every guest. He adds recommendations to restaurants and other tours around the city and in the region. Thanks to him we discovered that two of the sites we wanted to visit were temporarily closed. The tour clearly fulfils what you expect.

Your words make me especially happy because the way you describe my tour is exactly what I am hoping it would be like. A 1,5-hour overview that touches on as many aspects of Salzburg as possible while providing as many tips as possible for the rest of the stay. This was an absolutely fantastic way to see Salzburg. We did it on our last day so knew quite a few things already but Leo still provided lots of new information. He is clearly very passionate about the city. We had hoped to the do Nuns and Nazis tour but this wasn't running whilst we were there. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get underneath the skin of a beautiful city.
All in all it took about 2.5 hours, with Leo happy to answer any questions that we had. It was fun and informative, and at a good pace. I did feel a little sorry for him having to sing Edelweiss on his own, but he really wouldn't have wanted us singing :o)
Keep up the good work Leo. I hope that the tourist information lady that joined our tour will be recommending you to visitors, I am sure that she will!

This was not my first guided tour in Salzburg, so I was hoping to learn something new and get some insider views of the city. My expectations were met, all my curious questions were answered patiently and our guide delivered the most beautiful spots to rest and see the view.

We did the Free Walking Tour of Salzburg with Sonja. It was AMAZING!! Sonja was so sweet, funny and informative. She had pictures to accompany the stories she told throughout the tour which we loved. The tour was great and I can highly recommend it to anyone coming to Salzburg. Sonja was an awesome guide as well, hopefully you will be lucky enough to have her!

We really enjoyed the free tour with Leo - a very nice and funny guide; he really made the 2-hour-tour very entertaining. A very good way to get to know the city and the interesting facts of it. Would just recommend taking this tour to everyone!

Walking with Gerhald was really a great experience! He is so passionate about his hometown and was definitely great at make us all passionate about it too! We took the tour on a Sunday and there were quite a lot of people, but still it felt "cozy" and Gerhald tried to connect with all of us. Definitely recommended to get to know more about the history, the culture, the tradition and the food in Salzburg. Thanks again Gerhald! :)

Did the Free Walking tour with Leo before Xmas. He gave us lots of information on the history of Salzburg, great stories and very good tips and recommendations for eating and shopping. Leo was an excellent guide and made the walking tour informative and fun. Would highly recommend.

Leo was very knowledgeable and engaging, however the large number of people made it difficult to hear him at times. I realise it is very difficult for guides to turn people away however they should not advertise a maximum number if they are not going to stick to it. What we could hear was very interesting.

We apologize for any difficulty you may have had hearing Leo due to the large group size. We do our best to maintain a comfortable group size but as you stated it can be challenging to turn people away.
Around the holidays, we were understaffed, and too many walk-ins showed up without reservations.
This has not happened in the past so we will make sure to review our policies and procedures to ensure that we are able to stick to the limits and provide the best possible experience for all our guests. We appreciate your understanding and are glad to hear that you were still able to enjoy the interesting information and stories that Leo shared with you. I only have one day in Salzburg and am arriving in the morning from Vienna by train. I’m considering this tour in the morning and then a Sound of Music Tour in the afternoon. Is that a good plan to make the most of my one day in Salzburg or would you recommend a different plan?

As Catherine pointed out, the Sound of Music Tour takes you to the surroundings of Salzburg. My tour introduces you to the Old Town of Salzburg and the history of the city. They don't overlap, so your plan is very good. You can do the walking tour in the morning and there is a Sound of Music Tour at 2 pm.
Anyway. I am hoping we all will be able to travel and live a normal life again soon. I hope you stay healthy and well.

Hola, gracias para la pregunta. Un tour privado seria posible, si. Para el espanol tendria que buscar guia. Est que toures privadas son €120,- entonces seria un poco caro para dos personas. Normalmente toures privadas son para grupos mas grandes y los que viajan individualmente se juntan con el grupo de los free tours. Tambien tengo vuestra email. thank you for your interest in the tour. People usually either give €5,- or €10,-.
In my opinion it should depend on peoples budget. If someone doesn't tip, it's also fine and I would assume there is a reason.
After all I shouldn't call it "free", if I would expect a certain amount of money. So it really is up to you.

Thank you for your interest in the tour. The meeting point is at the spirit of Mozart artwork by Marina Abramovic. There is a detailed description of the meeting point on the front page of the website. At the moment all the tours leave at 9am but that might change depending on the season.
You can sign up on the tours section of the website seven days before the tour starts. There is a schedule on the tours page where you can sign up with your name and your email adress. You will get a booking confirmation with all the details once you signed up.

We are in salzburg for just two days. On arrival day we are planning to complete Hallstat tour and next day this walking tour. Could you please provide more details on what timings this tour starts and where to meet. And if I may ask, is two days enough to cover major places to see in salzburg including Hallstatt.

Hello Venky, two days is perfect for the city and Hallstatt. Your plan sounds good. If you are planning to spend a whole day for Hallstatt, you can go on your own. If you would like to do Hallstatt in half a day, the tour Barbara joined, operated by Panorama tours, is a convenient solution.
My walking tour starts at 9am every morning. On the tour I will recommend some things I think you should do on your full day in Salzburg and you get to ask question to make the most out of your day. You can sign up on the free tour website. There you also find the meeting point and the timings and you could check the guide section for a blog post on how to go to Hallstatt.
