Most of the signs for information lead you to the train information office, but there is a separate tourist information office inside the station. It hands out maps, and will arrange whatever you need. It is just a tiny office near an escalator.

Unfriendly and not informative for an info center
Sep 2017 • Family
My father and I was looking forward to visiting Salzburg. The first stop we made when we got off the train was straight to the info center as we only had a few days and wanted to make the most of our time....turned out to be a waste of time and not so great start to our trip. The person I spoke to was very curt, only answered questions that i had asked with such an attitude. Or am I misinterpreting Austrian's demeanor? We were the only ones there and there were 3 people on staff! She only gave info and pamphlets when i asked directly about them and did not offer any of her own recommendations or suggested itinerary. She also refused to give any info on Hallstatt as it was outside of Salzburg. Very unprofessional and poorly trained staff. I would just go there to pick up a map and pamphlets. Don't bother speaking to them.

Extremely helpful

The lady in this place made our trip of Salzburg she booked us tickets on the sound of music tour and salt mine tour told us that the vernacular railway would be closed the next day so to visit the castle that day which we did. She was so helpful giving us times of walking and where to find restaurants and bars and marked the map to show exactly where everything was we could not have enjoyed the trip so much without her help
