This beautiful lake lies about 4 km to the west of the town and we were determined to visit it.
We got a map from the tourist information centre on the main square and set off full of hope. It was a nice afternoon so we decided to walk it which took us just about an hour alongside the river.
What we hadn’t realised was you have to pay to use most of it! The part we arrived was near a park which had an entrance fee and just to get down to the lake shore and use the water to cool down cost over five €!
It is very beautiful but it was late in the day and we weren’t going to pay for that. Luckily, there is a train station nearby so we got the train back into town and left it at that.

Wörthersee is a real pearl between the mountains. There is so much to do. You can have a boat ride, you can go to the local cruise ship all around the lake or just stay at the shore at one of the plenty of cafés.

This lake is one of the warmest reaching 28C in summer. Its has a standard as Drinking water quality. One end is Klagenfurt and the other end 22km.is Velden with the famous hotel, Schloss Hotel. It was also used for an Austrian TV series of the same name. Chelsea FC also had their summer camp there for 2 years a few years ago. Trips around the lake start from the pier at the Klagenfurt end, the first ship sails at 8am, followed by another at 10,12 and 2pm. There are also even g sails and a special moonlight sail every full moon. With cold winters it can freeze completely making a big skating area but this is not every year, but ice skating is always available.

Offers a lot of sports activities. Water is clean. We had a few bad experiences with a gastronomy employer.

Beauty at top grade! Corona, as they call here pandemic scored bad on tourism, but you can still have a round trip of the lake by car and admire the magnificent settings, quiet as it would have been off season.
A must to come and spend day(s), relaxing, cycling, walking, swimming, sailing, what more? Awesome!

Considered the Most beautiful lake in Austria with the best drinking water quality. All kinds of watersport activities from May to late September. Try to avoid the high season from July-August. Besy spots are Pörtschach and Velden and Dellach (for GTI) fans.

This is amazing lake. The nature is beautiful and the environment also. I believe that in summer is beautiful to come here. There are plenty of parking spaces. I've seen plenty of sailboats.

I have lived in klagenfurt and district for over 30 years, The lake is Ca.22 Kl. long and 5kl breit in places. Klagenfurt is at the eastern end the County City for Carinthia, at this end the lake has a sand beach with bathing pontoons, in high season there are 10000 people bathing and relaxing. Yes ten Thousand. The lake is surrounded with hotels along its banks, Klagenfurt is the City very interesting and at the other end of the lake is Velden, In Velden there are 180 hotels the most famous is the Falkensteiner Schlosshotel. This is definatly 5 star, and the best in the area. From 1990-1993 a TV film was made, bit os a soap. Starring Uschi Glas and Roy Black who later died in unfortunate curcumstances. He was a very handsome man. On the South side is the largest wooden Panorama platform in the world. Dont worry there is a lift and the views on a lovely clear day are superb. There is also a lift to go down but also is a slide which is the quickest and best way down, I was 70+ when I last visited. So all I can say it is a lovely lake.

lake worthersee/carinthia has a Mediterranean climate in Summer.
Also durning the summer the lake worthersee area can get thunderstorms frequently.
may I ask if these thunderstorms are of a short nature?
Would these thunderstorms be similar to thunderstorms you get in lake garda italy durning the summer ie mostly in the evening or night time?
im planning a summer holiday to lake worthersee for July 2020 and would plan to do quite a bit of sunbathing
Hope thunderstorms do not interfere with my plan to sunbath and relax in the resort of portschach on lake worthersee next July

This is a copy of an existing review and very accurate!
The description is fairly accurate. We generally have hot and dry summers with somewhat frequent afternoon thunderstorms and mild, wet winters, even though recent winters haven’t been as wet as in prior decades. Rain in the summer and snow in the winter is usually based on a Mediterranean low front, unlike the rest of Austria, where precipitation commonly comes from the west to northwest fronts.

Hi. Is it true that lake worthersee and in the carinthia province in general there is more of a Mediterranean feel to it compared to the rest of austria which is more Germanic.
Carinthia/lake worthersee the people in this part of austria are more Mediterranean in their out look and personalities almost "dolce vitae" and whole vibe in carinthia/lake worthersee is very much Mediterranean and not Germanic.
Carinthia/lake worthersee is central Europe's answer to the costas of spain. Is that fair analogy?

Hi i read on many travel books and online that this part of austria ie carinthia were lake worthersee is has a climate different to the rest of austria. The climate from the information on travel books and online mention a Mediterranean climate in carinthia/lake worthersee area of austria cor the summer months. June July Augus.
How accurate is this description of the summer climate in this area?
Does carinthia/lake worthersee really get a Mediterranean in summer?
