The Rathaus is the centerpiece, the main square of Graz. at one end of the Hauptplatz. The facade is quite striking but somewhat smaller than most Rathauses in larger Austrian/German cities (e.g. Vienna, Munich....).

An exceptionally beautiful monumental Renaissance building. The City Hall or Rathaus is located on the beautiful city square Hauptplatz. We were delighted with the beautiful facade that is richly decorated. In the niche images on the facade display are important Austrians (such as the Habsburg emperors) and four great allegory "Art", "Science", "Trade" and "Commerce".
In the city hall in Graz, there is the official residence of the mayor of Graz, the local council and parts of the city administration. The history of this building is rich. It was the first town hall built in 1450. In addition to being a city hall, there was also the headquarters of the guardsman and the prison. The interior of the building is richly decorated as well as the exterior. The nearby shopping is excellent, the bookstore as well as the many cafe bars and restaurants surrounding it. The Rathaus is worth a visit.

The building, just like the whole city center is listed in Unesco world heritage, and it is so for a good reason. The building is amazingly beautiful.

There were many tourists and restaurants nearby in that beautiful and historical place. Since I was not very hungry when I arrived, I chose a snack bar to had a hot dog. Several of its regular customers were drinking beer at Stand 12. When I was trying to have an order at that booth, the enthusiastic customers helped call the boss/staff. The people in that booth greeted the guests cheerfully and enthusiastically, and they ate, drank, talked and cheered with them. Although I was not drinking beer, I was infected. Then, they began to talk to me and we had quite some laughters. That was a very good lunch, not only because of the delicious hot dog, but also because of the wonderful and memorable "only here only now" experience!

Beauty at its best! I visited briefly during a business trip, before christmas. the lighting of the building was breathtaking! there is also a Christmas market there!

Glorious architecture - Renaissance in style - "Massive" in size.
Located in a somewhat a pivotel tram meeting point, with abundance of walks that you can undertake from the Hauptplatz - the Town Hall location point.
