Among the 21 departments and institutions of the Joanneum Universal Museum, founded as the Joanneum in 1811, the Armoury is in a class of its own. Attracting around 55,000 visitors annually, it is the Joanneum's most-visited institution without an exhibitions role. Moreover, as the largest historic armoury in the world, it is a living memorial to a chequered, conflict-ridden past, whose bogeymen and prejudices are still with us.

This is a must see attraction in Graz InnerStadt if you are interested in old armor and arms. This is by far the largest and most comprehensive collection of its kind in the world. It is simply breathtaking!

It's a bit hard to find and is sandwiched between to non-descript buildings, but worth looking for! One of the largest museums of armory in the world with floor after floor. Very interesting guide and tour. Enjoyed it very much!

Even if you're not into weaponry, you can't help but to be intrigued by this museum. The largest collection of 15-18th century (mainly infantry) weapons in the world, the + 30.000 items are exhibited in a semi-warehouse setting, which makes it quite unique. To further...More
