Interesting market town which is mainly pedestrian. There are quite a few restaurants and cafés around, where you can relax and watch the world go by.

Steyr was not even on our list of places to visit while we were in Austria however we drove by the signs for Steyr so many times on our way to other towns, we decided to stop. We were so glad that we did! Steyr is such a lovely historic town that we were entranced from the very beginning. We wandered all over the town and just enjoyed the atmosphere. We loved it so much we will be going back at Christmastime as we learned they had lovely Christmas markets. Wander around Steyr and enjoy

From the sights Steyr has a Gothic parish church from the 15th century with rococo interior. There is a palace of the city hall of the 18th century, one of the most beautiful rococo buildings in Austria, and the palace from 1612 Innerberger Stadel city center is characterized by a three-storey late Gothic city houses with arcades on the ground floor, whose facade later renovated in Baroque and Rococo style. Among them are the most beautiful; Schoenthanhaus, Madlsederhaus Gothic Bummerlhaus (about 1497), and Sternhaus Dunklhof (1520.-1525).. It dates from the 10th century.

To begin we all should be parking legally everywhere. My word of caution is to make sure that you properly obtain a parking pass from the self service machines. You pull into town and the parking is behind the downtown buildings right along the river. The parking police were out on patrol almost constantly and we saw several cars being ticketed. We did not have any trouble parking. You MUST turn right about 1/2 to 2/3 the way downtown onto "Obere Kaigasse" which is a very narrow ally that goes down hill to the riverside parking. Just go slow and be careful of pedestrians that are walking up as it is very narrow. Also watch for the signs prohibiting motor vehicles from going further past Obere Kaigasse. I did witness several tourists driving well past the signs into pedestrian only territory and once they figured it out they had to make a difficult and embarrassing U-turn.
The city center is very scenic with many beautiful buildings. The area was under construction when we were there July 2018 so there was plenty of noise and barricades and several restaurants that were most likely suffering due to the construction.
I would recommend checking out this nice scenic town.

I went through the narrow streets of the old town, especially up and down the hill of the Lamberg castle.
Suddenly I arrived to this big plazza. It is long and quite narrow, comparing it to other central plazzas of other European old cities, but still beautiful.Close to the castle and to the rivers.

Apparently (according to our guide) Steyr was not a bombing target in WW2 and so it’s historic centre is pretty intact. Clearly there is a commitment to preserve history too and this old city centre has some spectacular architecture. Parking is a little difficult and there is a bit of a walk but it’s well worth going!

This is a city in contrasts! The town center in old town gives you an authentic medieval old town feel. Walk around the town center on the cobbled pathways. Coffee in the center of the walking pathway and opposite the photogenic Rathaus is an amazing experience, especially if you happen to be there immediately after the rain. The heavily industrialized section is a study in contrast.
The place is a good side trip from Linz and is well connected by train from both Vienna and Linz. You can combine a visit to Linz and Steyr from Vienna as a day trip. You will need to start early and take the 7 AM train from Vienna and will get back late in Eveniing but it is well worth the trouble.

I was on a bicycle trip, visited Steyr for an hour only. It is a small town with extremely beautiful historic centre. You can also see a few old churches and a castle/palace. The town is in a hilly place, so you can also enjoy beautiful views from some higher places, especially over the river. Steyr is my #1 tip in Oberösterreich, more beautiful than other towns I visited there (also nicer than Linz, although really small).

Leider nirgends! Nur ausgewiesene Parkgaragen verwenden! Distanzen zu Fuß sind aber relativ gering!
