Smallish museum with a permanent exhibition and changing exhibitions - all in German

This museum is housed in a former Jesuit school. It is very tidily laid out, with storage areas for bags and coats and well kept toilet facilities. For an extra couple of Euros one can have a guided tour by an English speaking guide (I took the German tour as the other visitors were German speakers). Like most Germanic tours, it was a bit long for my short North American attention span.The first floor display was on the theme "How to achieve happiness" "Wege zum Gluck". A number of students were asked how to make the community happier. The answer - as displayed - was fairly predictable: recycling, diversity, bees. etc. The other floors showed part of the permanent collection, including portraits of famous folks (Beethoven, Mozart, Kepler, etc.) who had lived in Linz at one time or another. Some interesting items, like devotional candles, wound round and around into decorative book covers - to be given as wedding presents. Also, incredibly narrow, tiny shoes 19th century Linz women were supposed to wear on special occasions. Also, the distinctive Linz headdress Linz women used to wear. This museum is of fairly limited appeal, but run by nice folks.

A worthy trip, if interested in ww2.

A smallish museum; but if you are interested in ww2 and life after it for the citizens of linz, a great place to watch the videos and learn more about the city divide.

The museum is quite small and had an exhibition about Linz after WWII. Really it was more for the inhabitants of Linz, I suppose, but the lady at the entrance was very friendly and we talked with her a bit. Also, it was included in the Linz Card which I highly recommend you get.

An intimate find

A small museum with a brilliant curator. I saw an exhibit of local female artists living mostly in the 1800s. A rare find. All in German so bring translator.

The current exhibition on food on the 1st floor is terrible.

There is an excellent exhibition on Linz on the second floor of the museum but the current exhibition on food on the first floor is terrible. Very interesting film material on Linz's most famous son, the tenor Richard Tauber who is far more well known than Bruckner who wasn't even from Linz. Tauber was born in the Herrenstrasse in Linz and there are interesting films about him on the second floor. Interesting model of the baroque city of Linz in one room. It costs €8 to visit the museum which is beside the private Roman Catholic University which was the former Priests Seminary and just a few steps from the Landstrasse.
