We took the 25 min Linz City Express today (seated in carriage with English commentary) and it was well worth it to learn about the city and get your bearings.

The yellow road train departs from the Hauptplatz every half hour and takes you on a 25 minute tour of the city's major attractions. The fully enclosed carriages are great for all kinds of weather. The carriages have glass windows and ceilings offering a 360...More

This train ride takes about 30-40 minutes but it lacks so much. Yes, they take you sigh-seen through the city but the information provided is not very interesting. I would just walk through the town and enjoy it that way.
