We took a river cruise from Germany to Linz, the boats dock very near the square, it was only a few minutes walk. We were given some free time and our meeting spot was by the tall column in the center, easy to find. There...More

Lovely old square to sit in and enjoy life. Had a nice vibe about it as did the rest of Linz. It's a university town so bright and lively. A nice place to visit on our river cruise

Linz Hauptplatz is a large square, pretty unremarkable as is Linz itself. A city tour bus stop is located there.

Famous for its tower and the balcony on that Rathaus where Hitler gave a speech the day after Austria was annexed. Smaller than other European main squares but still pretty. We shopped her for food after a trip to Mauthausen.

For history and Culture lovers is this a beautiful place to visit. So much history and after learning about the past you can enjoy a drink in one of the cafes near the 'platz'.

We were fortunate in that we had a tour guide but I believe it is worth finding out some of its history. There are some lovely buildings and it is a large area. You can get a tram essily from here.

This fascinating city is the hometown of Hilter and Himmler..they went to the same high school here. That doesn't recommend it for a visit, but the industrial parts of it was rebuilt after the war bombing and it has some high technology computing museums good...More

Hi Elena, Not sure about Postlingberg, but Linz you could do in two days: the first to see the sights, and the second to go back to that chocolate shop you wanted to go to but didn’t think it was worth it but now you wish... More

As far as we know the ships dock close to the Hauptplatz. It is a few minutes walk from the docking area to the Hauptplatz. Leave the ship and turn right - you should see the Hauptplatz after a short walk.

Hauptplatz/Brucknerhaus taxi? (4 Replies)
Hi I'm visiting Linz with my elderly mother in April for a concert at Brucknerhaus. We are staying downtown near Hauptplatz and I imagine the hotel can arrange a taxi to the concert. What is the best way to arrange a taxi back to the hotel after the performance? Thanks

New year events (9 Replies)
Hi everyone, Do you have any suggestions for new year events in Graz? Should we make a reservation before for a club or should we be at Hauptplatz in midnight? Thank you!

It is popular to spend NYE outside, drinking sparking wine and/or Punsch and have fun with friends. I have never spent NYE in Graz, but the situation is usally very similar in most cities. Night clubs fill up after midnight, normally a higher entrance fee is charged. I personally do not like night clubs on NYE because of that, but if you like to dance, then it is your only chance.

Transport from linz airport to Hauptplatz on sunday. (1 Replies)
My flight will arrive in Linz at 17:45, Dec.14 and I could have 5 hours to look around Linz. Can anybody answer some of my questions below and let me travel around Linz without wandering? 1. Is there a citytour program for hours-staying tourists? If so, how long it will take and how much is the fare for one adult? 2. There is no airport shuttle on sunday going to the center of Linz, is it right? Then, how can i reach to the center of Linz, or Hauptplatz? let me know how long it...More

(1) No, there are city tours like in other cities, but you will be too late to take one! Be aware that it will already be dark outside when your plane touches down in Linz. Furthermore, on Sundays Linz is rather calm, consider that! (2) Take a taxi or the free shuttle to the nearby Hörsching train station, then by train to Linz Main Station (Linz Hauptbahnhof) and finally any Northbound tram to Hauptplatz. (3) No subways in Linz, it is a city of only ~200.000 residents. Trams and buses run...More
