We hated the cathedral from the outside. The construction scaffolding is unfortunate, but has to be accepted. The three huge electronic signs on the other hand are extremely unsightly. The interior is amazing, very dark in some places, with rows of tall, incredibly detailed and beautiful stained glass windows. We were fortunate to witness a spontaneous concert by a visiting choir that created an unforgettable memory.

When I visited the cathedral, some work were going on at the exterior, so I could not see its beauty from outside. But I could admire it from inside, especially the stained glasses. Later I read that this church can accommodate up to 20,000 people. It is somehow hard to believe it is so big.

This cathedral is of immense size, claiming to be bigger than that in Vienna, though the spire is two metres shorter. Neogothic, started in later nineteenth century, its grey, cold interior is not inspiring, despite all the stained glass. It lacks the lightness of touch that is the mark of real gothic, and is ponderous. Some of the statutes are terrible, such as that of St Paul which reminded us of the sort of figurines used by gamers.

This may be a hot take, but this is officially my favorite church in Europe. I mean wow. It is just stunning. It is the largest church in Austria, just tucked away in a little neighborhood in Linz. The stained glass is stunning, and there is so much of it. If you’re lucky enough to be in there when the organ is playing, as I was, it’s a lovely sound. After visiting lots of churches on my trip, I thought I was pretty “churched out”, but I spent about an hour here, just sitting and appreciating. An absolute MUST when in Linz

This is an inspirational building from the outside but the inside is another world.

A vast predominately oblong building with so many stained windows. We had a tour guide so we got the story depicted on each window. From the outside you are unaware of the windows other then they are windows but once inside!

There is plenty more to see as well as windows. Light a candle for that missing loved one, meditate, but don't leave Linz without visiting here.

This is a well designed church set on a very nice plaza. It is a short walk away from the tourist area and it is a good stop.

The stained glass stands out as you enter and then you are enthralled by the beautiful architecture of the interior. A magnificent church with a long history.

This cathedral, the city main cathedral, it's one of the ex-libris of Linz, so there's not too much to say. Monumental facades, all laboriously worked, great coloured windows inside, located at a nice square (Domplatz) with an interesting stone piece of art (Lapis-lazuli).
It's possible to climb at the top of the Mariendom tower to get a higher view of the city. Free entrance at the cathedral, charged in the tower.

This is the largest cathedral in Austria. I understand that 20,000 people can attend a mass inside.
There is a feeling of reverence inside with so many stained glass windows. We attended on a bright, sunny day which added so much to the beauty.
An interesting footnote: the bee nests above some of the entrances produce honey which is a source of revenue throughout the community.

This is the biggest church in Austria and has very pretty, contemporary stained glass windows. Different to the traditional cathedral and worth a visit
