- Janeen M13 contributionsBreathtaking ViewsBeautiful views. The little train up to the top was quick and steady. We went at the end of March, we took the 12:30p ride up, and the 1:15p ride down. It can be kind of annoying getting a pic on the skywalk, but if you take pictures for others they will do the same for you. Of course, there are individuals who aren't considerate of others space or pictures but that happens in many tourist spots. You're able to angle yourself in many ways to get beautiful unobstructed backgrounds. While the skywalk has amazing pictures, also take a few shots on the bridge, there are far less people and it's equally as beautiful.Hello Ilikeitmyway22, thanks for your rating. - LingKuala Lumpur, Malaysia984 contributionsAmazing viewsIf you’re visiting Hallstatt you have to check out the skywalk for amazing views of the lake and mountains. The funicular station is a short walk from the parking lot in the opposite direction of the village. The view from the top is amazing and there’s also a salt mine that you can explore. If you get hungry there’s a restaurant as well at the top.Hello bloodbubble, thanks for your rating. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit. - Kate KCleveland, Ohio97 contributionsCheck the weather!Had to laugh because we chose a cloudy day for this amazing spot. We were praying for the clouds to fade but they never did! Nonetheless it was still a great experience being up in the mountains and imagining what the view would look like minus the clouds. From what I see from other reviews it’s beautiful!!Hello Katelyn, thanks for your rating. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit. We are looking forward to welcome you back. - Reiselust112Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany2,615 contributionsbeautiful view of the lakeThe Skywalk Hallstatt towers over Lake Hallstatt. It is a viewing platform. It is located right next to the Rudolfsturm, at the entrance to the Hallstatt high valley. The Skywalk in the Salzkammergut was inaugurated in 2013. The 12-meter-long viewing platform floats freely over Lake Hallstatt. From the top you can look down on the historic center of Hallstatt - with the world-famous church. Nowhere else can you get this view of historic Hallstatt and the lake. The mountain drops 350 meters from the Skywalk viewing platform. You are 860 meters above sea level! It is quite impressive, but not for us, as we were on the Skywalk with a glass floor in Penang. The Skywalk is in the open air and is always open. However, a visit during a thunderstorm is not recommended because the platform is susceptible to lightning. Even in the winter months you can enjoy the amazing view from the platform. However, when it is icy and snowy, it is best to dress appropriately so that you don't slip. Depending on how you are "getting there", you should also pay attention to the operating times of the Salzbergbahn, otherwise you will have to take one of the beautiful hiking trails. We took the train from Hallstatt to the lookout point. The valley station of the Salzbergbahn is in the town. The P2 car park, where we also parked, is very close by. This is also where you get to the mine.Hallo Reiselust112, vielen lieben Dank für deine Bewertung. Es freut uns sehr, dass es dir bei uns gefallen hat. - snj1027Saint Louis, Missouri117 contributionsLong lines but awesome viewProbably like most reviews it gets crowded and can't be a long wait. Obviously the view is beautiful. Personally it would be nice to be able to spend more time observing the area but we felt rushed as felt bad for others waiting like we did. One issue are those who come up their selfie sticks and take a lot of pictures in different poses like they are modeling for instagram. But it is worth going up and provides amazing views.Hello XXXsnj1027 thank you for your rating (and feedback). We are glad that you enjoyed your visit. We are looking forward to welcome you back. - Raintree_ThailandBangkok, Thailand4,465 contributionsA long first step down! The Skywalk is a viewing platform extended out over the valley above Hallstatt. The views of the town, lake, and mountains are spectacular -- especially on clear days. We rode the funicular up the mountain and waited our turn to reach the tip of the skywalk for the obligatory photos. Despite some narcissists taking an inordinate amount time for multiple photos in their goofy poses, the wait was not intolerable. We fully enjoyed the views!Hello Raintree_Thailand, thanks for your rating. We are glad that you enjoyed your visit. We are looking forward to welcome you back. You must go up to Salt Mine Museum - from there view down to valey and lake are spectacular. Also when going down from Skywalk I recommend to use hiking path down (if You are fit) because there You can get a super close up view to Hallstatt waterfall from a platform and views from path is remarkable.Hello Mārtiņš D, thanks for your rating. I bought the ticket and waited in queue for about 15 minutes. Once I got to the top, made my way to the overlook which semi-crowded but managed to get some good photos. Just went there earlier today and absolutely enjoyed the view. The funicular ride is a short 3 minute ride each way. There is a counter as you enter to make sure the cars don’t overfill. Unless you are at the front of the lower car, the view can be obscured by 20 plus of your new best friends. Given the time of the year, we just wanted to make sure the expense of 22 euros was worth the view. In our case the fog lifted earlier in the morning so we were fine. It is not inexpensive but for us given the complexity of getting here in the first place, it was worth it. Given we were off season, we walked in immediately without a queue and were able to be in the lower car with a great view. Same for the ride down. At the bottom there is the stereotypical gift store. One recommendation is to head straight to the skywalk. There is a bridge that provides a great vista that others stopped at. This is something that can be done later. That way you can take pictures in a small confined space that really holds one person or one couple at a time. Enjoy.

We were visiting Hallstatt for half a day as part of a full day trip and arrived around am. We quickly headed to the funicular and had to wait around thirty minutes before climbing aboard. Each carriage takes 24 people so the queue keeps moving. It was a lovely sunny day when we were there without a cloud in the sky so the view from the top was worth every penny of the 22 euro funicular fee. If you have a bit of time then there’s also a cafe at the top to take some refreshments. We had an amazing time and will never forget the experience.

We visited the Hallstatt Skywalk in May 2024. The weather was good that day: a bit cloudy but still allowed us good opportunity for some nice photos.
We took a leisurely walk from our hotel (near the Market Square) to the funicular station. Probably about 15 minutes walk. Tickets were purchased at the counter.
The cable car ride uphill was comfortable & smooth. We enjoyed great views all round through the glass roof and windows.
I will recommend that you purchase the ticket to include the Salt Mine Tour, which is good value.
Take your time to walk around the bridge, the viewing platform and the Rudolf’s Tower. There is no need to rush.
We had a fun time at the Skywalk and hope to return one day for a second look.

We arrived (via Bus 543 from the Gosaumühle bus stop, after taking 541 from Bad Ischl) at the south end Hallstatt Lahn (Seelände) Bus Stop. The base Salzbergbahn cable car up to the observation deck is just a quick 3 minute walk west of the Bus Stop. Certainly a nice, obligatory photo op elevated view of the lake; not so much of the town; which you can otherwise get a decent angle from the north end of town, but probably best from out on the lake. There are historic markers, grave sights, chapel to see along a separate path once up at the skywalk, but we looked at the first few and called it good. NOTE the ticket had a return/heading down time stamp on it, although not sure how strict one must adhere to it.

Beautiful view of the town and lake BUT you also could save the time and money because lines for the durnickare and a picture on the skywalk were long (we visited during off season, I bet it is incredibly during busier months). There are plenty of free, beautiful views around town especially is you take the path behind the church on the hill. This must see, beautiful town has so much to offer.

Hello Sarah,
thank you very much for your review and feedback. You are right, Hallstatt offers many beautiful views. The path to the viewing platform is usually accessible by foot, except when the weather conditions don't allow it. But isn't it more comfortable and exciting to take the cable car up? We would definitely be very happy to welcome you back soon. Perhaps next time at one of our salt mines in Salzburg or Altaussee?

Although you can go up and down by funicular, we made the trip on foot. It is a trek of a couple of hours, all uphill, passing through beautiful nature and incomparable views of Lake Hallstatt.
When you reach the top you will find a restaurant, panoramic points and the possibility of taking an excursion to the salt flat (you can buy tickets right there).
A beautiful experience.-

Pure tourist trap. Yes, the view is nice but the funicular costs 22€/person for the return trip or 28€ if you visit the salt mine and it lasts 4 minutes. Better to do the 50 min uphill walk on the way out and enjoy the beauty of the village.

The viewpoint can be reached either on foot, after a significant hike, or by a funicular railway that runs from the town of Hallstatt. The funicular costs 20 euro for a two way journey. It is also close to a historically significant salt mine. The views are truly spectacular from here, however the viewpoint itself is so popular that there are often queues to take photos.

Very rude crew, over-expensive and not worth the money.
One of the worst places to visit, 20 euros per person, just to climb up and down a mountain, imagine me with a whole family with me. Who should I take with me, and who should I leave? That's the kind of existential questions, I was asking myself in front of a 100 person line waiting to waste their hard earned money for such a tourist trap.

Hello Chagraaa,
Thank you so much for your visit and feedback! We’re very sorry that your experience with us was not to your liking. We do our best to provide an experience that enjoyable to most visitors. The price of the cable-car ticket includes not only your ride up and down the mountain but also the information in our multi-language audioguide, as well as the exhibition grave and the exhibits in the Knappenhaus. For our more athletically inclined visitors, there is also a trail to the Upper Hallstatt Valley, and hiking up would save you the money spent on the cable-car. Perhaps we would be able to redeem ourselves on your next visit?
Best regards and a traditional “Glück Auf,”

Dear Flyer36851634943,
We offer tickets for just the funicular with access to the Skywalk and the exhibitions in the upper Hallstatt valley without the mine tour. Of course, you can also hike up to the skywalk, which takes approximately 45 minutes depending on your pace. While children under the age of 4 are not allowed within the mines, they are allowed on the funicular, skywalk, and all our other aboveground features.
Unfortunately, space in Hallstatt is a precious commodity, so we are unable to offer a parking lot exclusive to our visitors, but there are paid parking lots nearby that are within walking distance to Salzwelten.
Best regards,
Sashi & the Salzwelten team

Hello Natalie815,
Usually it is possible to take the trail up to the Hallstatt Skywalk in November, but we cannot guarantee it as trail access can be limited in the case of heavy snowfall. Even in cases of trail closure, the cable cars provide access to the Skywalk within their operating hours.
As for the "stairway to nothing," it is in a different location, at the Dachstein Skywalk.
