This one hour presentation was well worth the time. You are escorted with a guide throughout the mine, and get to see the oldest stairs in the world (dating back 700 BC). I truly enjoyed this tour, however I have advice for participants. Getting to the mine is a long steep walk, with a 30 degree upward incline. Many individuals... More

Good way to spend a couple of hours when visiting Hallstatt, ride up in the funicular, short walk up hill past various displays to the salt mine entrance. Don the protective two piece clothing to start your underground adventure, our tour guide was very informative speaking in both German and English, after a short while and some mine information, the... We started to go up with the cable car and it was fun. Then we head to the salt mine..everything started to go bad...several time the power went out and the tour guide told us to stay put for 5 min and if the electricity didn't go back on we have to leave..so everybody left the mine after 5 min without... Decided to make an afternoon of it by taking the funicular up to the World Heritage Viewing Platform and the salt mines tour. The tour required each visitor to don a pants/jacket combo, walk into the mine 300 odd metres and then experience various aspects of salt mining now and historically and it included not only educational light n sound... Went there a rainy day. Ended up along with two schoolclasses. Me and my girlfriend were the only non-german speaking there and we still got to hear everything in english.

Huge disappointment. Lots of waiting around. Then once we made the trek into the mountain, the power went off. The tour guide turned on his flashlight and told everyone to "follow me"... but lots of other people didn't think of using or didn't have cell phones and flashlights on their phones. Some very elderly folks were trying to trek several... More

You have to walk a little before arriving in the Salz Welten. And the view in the way is very beautiful. Inside the mine is cool, but I think is more interesting to kids. They have a lot of videos, and I thought it a little boring.

€30 and you get the funicular up to the viewing platform, entry to Salzburg Welten and the tour which is both educational and fun. 2 timber slides through mine levels and a quite long train ride to exit the mountain and a really well crafted light show over the subterranean salt lake to illustrate the 7000 years of history at...
