The salt mine in Hallstatt is not usually excursion to a mine. It is geological trip through history of Alpen. In two floors of mine you can see documentation about depression of the Alp. It is interesting also info about the long period of the mine. Because it is around 3.000 y's long. And on the end of sightseeing tour... More

First of all....... Be aware you have to walk quite a bit uphill and take many steps to get to this place. For the healthy and fit.......... This is fine........ But not for the frail or very young (I even think they recommend at least age of 4). Otherwise.......... This is a very fun.... MUST do thing while visiting Hallstatt.... More

Really intersting to see this salt mine and the presentations under the surface. There is also a creepy miner telling a story about the "man in the salt". The greatest were the slides in the mine.

Nice experience. The view from the top is great, and we took funicular up and down. This is not my first visit to salt mine. It is not as impressive as one near Krakow or one near Salzburg but it is still nice place to spent few hours.

Salz Welten, with the viewing platform is definitely the main draw to this somewhat remote part of Austria. The day trip from Salzburg was well worth it and provided experiences that are hard to replicate anywhere else What I liked: The funicular ride to the viewing platform and the platform itself. The walking path to the salt mine entrance also... More

We arrived 20 minutes before a scheduled tour so not long to wait. We then watched the video with the amusing cabaret chap that we felt was more aimed at children but never-the-less was interesting. Dressed in our "white suits" we headed into the mine and found the tour very interesting. The guide was happy to answer questions and provided... More

The whole tour cost 30 euro and it includes going up and down using Funicular train, a guided tour to world's oldest mine. The best part was salt mine tour, walking into mine, sliding down by sliders inside the mine, showing documentary inside the mine then a super light show and it ends with small train ride. If anyone is... More

We read fellow TripAdvisor member reviews, including the "poor" and "average" ones, and thankfully decided to go ahead and take the tour. We had a FANTASTIC tour guide (woman with brown hair -- didn't get her name) who made the tour. It is relatively short, very fun, and educational. We agree with other reviewers that one should be careful if... More

Interesting trip to learn and spend good time with family. It is a didactic and easy tour to learn about the origins of Hallstatt. Very recommended to the visitors of the area.
