The tour got off to a rough start because things were chaotic and seemed rushed. We were just sent from place to place without really knowing where we were going or why. However, things got more organized and I wound up having a blast. I'm not sure I'd have had as much fun if I didn't love kitsch, though. Some... More

The visit to the salt mine was part of an organised trip, and having never been to a salt mine before it was quite interesting. The tour took several hours so can be quite tiring especially for the very young or old, but it was good fun and very interesting to understand the history and background to the mine. The... More

Good indoor program, but when we were there, it was very crowded, my kids didn't see anything . They make 65 person / one program with a guide, and I think it is too much people. We paid 90 Euro, so a little bit expensive.

This was a great activity to do with kids. To start, the ride up the funicular was a lot of fun, but be prepared for a continued walk up before the tour starts. The walk is enjoyable, but quite steep. We did not have to wait more than 5 minutes once we arrived at the tour center which was nice!... More

The weather wasn't too good so we were looking for things to do to fill a potentially wet afternoon. Rather than take the funicular railway the rain seemed to be holding off so we walked up instead - it's quite a trek but there are interesting info boards to break this up en route. The top of the funicular isn't... More

This is a must do if you're in the area. A little pricey but worthwhile visit of around 2.5 hours. (Note you get 6 euros pp discount with the local attraction card which is free with 3 night plus hotel stay). We visited a saltmine in Poland but this was far superior as there are lot of activities involved and... More

I toured the Hallstatt salt works with my 3 school aged children. Hallstatt is gorgeous and the place was packed the day we spent there. Parking was a challenge, but we eventually managed to get a place. The tour was well worth the effort. The guide did the tour in both German and English. The mine has been in operation... More

would heartily recommend this visit which does explain how/why the area was so wealthy back in the day. A few things to be aware of though: if you feel the cold a light jacket is worth taking (not that it's awfully cold, it's not) be aware there is a fair amount of walking involved. In fairness this ranks as an... More

We were not aware that there are salt mines in the world. The history is interesting and its surprising how much salt is there. They have been digging since a long time.

The place is interesting, but in a group of 65 you feel to be just one head in a cattle that is rushed forward. It was barely possible to hear the guide due to crowd and lacking English skills. Slides too so much time that everything else was just pushed.
