An historical start to old town
Dec 2019
This is a 15th century gate that is the only surviving one of four that used to exist in Krems. To my 21st century tourist sensibility it just looks like a charming beginning to what we found to be a very cute old town. Reading just a bit about the gate I've learned that included on the gate are various symbols of painful things, like a flood disaster and the persecution/genocide of Krems' Jewish citizens.

I would recommend walking through this gate to reveal a lovely old town area.

Charming
Dec 2019
.Pass through the old gate and enter the old town area of Stein. It's a charming example of an old city, modernized. Buildings are small and old but the shops, restaurants and bars are vibrant and filled with both locals and tourists.

Must see and photograph!
Jul 2019
My husband and I, along with a group of seniors, on a river cruise, was visiting Durnstein. We were fortunate to be able to enjoy a walking tour of this historic area. The Krems Gate (previously) Steiner Gate) is the eastern city gate and has a four story square gate tower from the 15th century. The city wall leads south to the Danube and north to the ruin. Today, the tower is used as a private residence.

A beautiful place to visit and photograph! Don't miss it!

The Old Town of Stein - A UNESCO site and next to Krems
May 2019 • Couples
Settled by Romans in 32 AD, it's Steiner Tor (Stein Gate) is one of two remained medieval gates erected in the 15th century. Rebuilt in Baroque style after destruction by Hungarian troops in 1477 and today symbolizes the city. Once known for salt and wine, it is now primarily a tourist destination. Enjoyable sleepy town with some nice views if you are up to walking to the top of the hill

Gateway to the old town
Jun 2019 • Solo
The Steiner Tor is a gateway to the old town and to the pedestrian zone. When I was there (Sunday morning), the chimes were playing songs on the tower.

impressive city gate
May 2019 • Family
Guarding the entrance to the old town the tower gate is a fine example of a fortified entrance to a medieval town. Leads directly to the pedestrianized main street of the old town.

Lovely gate
Nov 2018 • Couples
We stayed in Krems an der Donau while travelling between Mauthausen and Vienna. The gate is lovely and it looked particularly pretty with Christmas lights. However, after a quick view and photograph we were onto the dinner destination.

Nice but nothing special
May 2018 • Couples
This Tor or gate in English is a nice place to take some pictures but nothing special, no actual attraction.

Decorating for Advent
Nov 2018 • Couples
The Steiner Tor marks the beginning of the shopping street in Krems. When we visited today shopkeepers were decorating their store fronts with lights and trimming the trees outside every shop with coloured bows or traditional Bavarian decorations. I found this town full of charm and worth the visit. The gate itself is a beautifully preserved example of a Medieval city gate.
