Stift Klosterneuburg is a monastery in Lower Austria, about 45 mins drive from Vienna city. It has an impressive, Gothic church but its most precious treasures are resting at its museum within the premises of the Monastery. Gold vessels decorated with precious stones, enameled liturgical items curved with magnificent skill, most impressive.

Amazing architecture and such an intersting history, full of wondrous artifacts. Definitely not to be missed, although it is about an hour's journey from Vienna.

The Monastery is a literal treasure. If you take the tour they will lead you through the tunnels which are very old, early Christian and early medieval art. Some of the artifacts which they have found on site are of Roman times. The feeling is absolutely ethereal when one walks through the stain glassed halls. The sun beaming through in... More

If you want to see the monastery, with the exception of the treasury, you have to join a tour. The tours are only in German but you do get a free audio guide. However, they do not work that well and it is rather difficult to listen to when the guide is explaning everything in German. It would be better... More

Dear reader, Since you are looking at this in advance, I recommend you read about the Verdun Alterpiece. It is an amazing, complex piece of metalwork from 1181. A priceless work of art, which we saw in near privacy. It is not in the church, so you can see it close up in a room that also has medieval stained... More

You can dive in a lot of history. Wonderful architectural site. You can chose among many different tours is go by yourself. You can select one of 5 tours (60 min each) or do all with a very reasonable discount. Don't miss the Weinkeller tour. You will get some delicious Kloster wine!!

We were a guest choir for a recent Holy Mass service. It was an amazing experience. The gigantic space felt warm and welcoming as it filled with our voices. It was a rather strange experience as we felt like children who could be "heard but not seen". In our home church we perform directly in front of our audience, but... More

It was a great place with an old architecture which is near vienna, you can reach there easily with a local bus 232 which stand in front of the station Heiligenstadt. They offer some tours in English and German. Of course there are some audio guides in many other languages as well

Take the short bus trip out to this amazing monastery. The treasury room and museum are amazing but DO also take the tour and see the amazing Verdun altar.

Klosterneuburg Monastery is a twelfth-century Augustinian monastery of the Roman Catholic Church located in the town of Klosterneuburg in Lower Austria. 11 euro entrance for adults with concessions applying at certain ages which includes the essential audio guide. Totally lovely and a feast of goodies to behold especially in the Treasury, the monastery’s most valuable treasures newly presented in a... More
