It is a great drive along these little villages by the side of the river. There are lots of things to see along the way and it is a nice alternative to Vienna when you have had enough of city culture. Scenery is spectacular and the vineyards and apricot trees are lovely. Must be amazing when they are in blossom.

We took the Brandner sightseeing cruise from Melk to Krems on a Tuesday. As it was a weekday there were only two cruises from Melk to Krems. Hence, we could only made one stop along the way.We chose Spitz which was situated midway. At Melk , we visited the town and the Benedictine abbey. The cruise from Melk to Spitz... More

We booked a combi-ticket through OBB (Austrian rail service), which included outwards train ticket to Melk, entrance to the abbey, a river cruise to Krems, and the train back to Vienna. The river cruise down the Danube was fantastic - it was a beautiful summer day with the sun out and the scenery travelling along was stunning. There's lovely sloping... More

We were blessed with perfect weather, interesting fellow tourists, and a knowledgable and fun guide for our day in this valley of breathtaking beauty and interesting wines new to our palates. The pace of travel and activities is well designed and executed, very true to the description, with a few delightful surprises along the way. Dimostenis Kontovounisios (Dimos to us)... More

It was a wonderful place to visit, it was like heaven. The small village near to church was charm and relaxing. But the main problem with tour was it's short stay in valley only for 2 hours and we didn't time to go around.

The Wachau is beautifill to visit, see and drive through. There are also numerous good restaurants and great wine estates.

Only things to add: 1. Make sure to drive both sides of the Danube from Krems to Melk and back. 2. Few to no wineries open Sat-Sun. Go on weekdays. 3. Go see Aggstein castle up a 3km drive - spectacular place with breathtaking views.

Wachau Valley Wine Tasting country was gorgeous! The countryside felt like movie land...Surreal! The vineyards were everywhere and they were terraced up the hills all around. It had wisps of fog and clouds when we were there--unbelievably beautiful. Vineyard workers all do the work on the vineyards by hand--huge, straight up the side climbs. When you see it, you can't... Lucky enough to have visited on a river boat and have a full day at Weibenkirchen. Great tour around the village, wine tasting and checking out the sites. Heaps of cyclists though. Watch out. Lucky to see the little train too
