This has got to be one of the best racing weekends in the calendar. A fantastic weekend for any petrol head or anyone who appreciates the older, proper race cars!!! The sound and smell of the pre war - 1980's cars is something to behold and the drivers really race hard so there's always excitement. A MUST for anyone interested in racing.
It's really easy to navigate around Monaco during race weekends and there's always someone to help/assist.
We sat in K2 which had a great view down to the harbour and it also has a view of the stunning boats in the harbour. Not sure we'd pay for hospitality because this is such a great spot!

Our third visit to this event which only takes place every 2 years. You get the benefits of the location and some great historic racing (cars up the 80s). The racing is held on the full GP circuit with all of the infrastructure. Lots of short races with plenty of close racing. Prices are good too - our seats cost us €70 for Sat/Sun, whereas the same seats for the F1 weekend cost €1450!! Free seating for Friday practice adds to the experience. The main railway station is in the heart of the action so, depending on your grandstand, there is not far to walk. It is early in the season though, so best take some wet weather clothing in case of showers.

We have attended the last 4 or 5 historic Grand Prix in Monaco. We originally went because it was my petrol head husband's 50th birthday, but we have returned every 2 years since because the Historique is an incredible event, which offers 5 or 6 races for 1/10th of the price you would pay for the main F1 Grand Prix. Everything is set up for the F1 race, (which is held 2 or 3 weeks after the Historique) and you get a sense of the atmosphere as many of the big boats have started to arrive in the harbour. And the historic race cars are thrown around the track as though they were still brand new. All the great historic racing drivers seem to attend and it seems to be becoming as big an event as the Goodwood Revival. The main difference between the Historique and the F1 apart from the price is that you get to see quite a few races, where overtaking still takes place. We have seen some great races over the years.
There are a load of people travel from the UK over to Monaco for the race every couple of years and we seem to find them all sitting in the stand at Casino Square, which is our viewing stand of choice. Commentary is provided in French, English, German and Italian. And during the race weekend you can wander around the paddock area in the evenings and get a good look at the cars and chat to the very knowledgable drivers and mechanics. And when you get bored with that, you can walk the track and party in the harbour area until late.
We usually stay in Monaco, but you could easily stay more cheaply in Nice orMenton and get the train in for the day of the races.
You can easily get tickets to the event at the last minute if you happen to be in town - there are a couple of ticket kiosks around town. Tickets for 2018 are no more than 50 euros which are crazily cheap when compared with the F1 prices of 500 euros plus.
Go and have an amazing time - and we will see you there!

My husband and I went to see the time trials for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. No tickets available without blowing a budget, so we walked up the hill to the royal palace. From there we had a pretty amazing view of the race, the grand stands, and the beautiful harbor. It was a fun atmosphere, and we had a great day. The promotion area near the race had free interactive games for adults and children, plus the chance to pose next to a Formula1 car. There was also a huge screen set up to view the race. Free entertainment in Monaco? Who'd have thought?

Just got back from a long weekend at the Monaco Historic Grand prix. The whole event is brilliantly organised and to be honest pretty informal if you go on the Thursday and Friday for the set up and free paractice sessions. The actual races were incredible and the sights and sounds of Grand Prix cars from the 1920's to the 1980's were a sight and sound to behold.
The rain on the Sunday during the actual races added to the excitement and none of the front runners in each race held back.
The actual Grand Prix track is narrow and it was great to be able to walk the whole track after qualifying on the Saturday.
Any petrol head into classic racing will love this. Monaco is a great place and despite it's reputation you can also find food and drink at reasonable prices.
We will be back in 2 years time.

If you like your old car racing there are much better events than Monaco Historic. Goodwood, Silverstone, Spa, Angouleme, Pau, Zandvoort to mention a few. All of which allow far closer contact with the cars and much better viewing to boot. The supposed Monaco appeal is lost on me. From a hospitality point of view Nice & Cannes offer a much better experience and a warmer welcome to the traveller.

A trip to Monaco is incomplete without visiting this place. Though one cannot walk up to that place..

A must for any Motorsport fan. We had tickets for tribune K8, view over the harbour was amazing and due to the kindness of a local my son was able to stand on the back row, directly about the pit exit and start finish line. Stayed in Novotel Monaco (see separate review) totally amazing experience. Tickets less than a 10th of the cost of the F1 2 weeks later. Walked and drove whole track following day. 😀

A good way to see Motor Racing at Monaco without paying for the very expensive tickets of the Grand Prix. Also you can have the pick of the Grandstands as they are not normally full.
