Our hotel was next to this Princess Grace Botanical Garden and it is absolutely lovely with many types of roses. It is not so big but has many benches to sit down and read a book surrounded by amazing views and smells.

This rose garden took some finding, and I'm afraid it wasn't worth the effort. I visited in August, so the best of the roses was long since over. It all looked a bit parched and barren, I'm afraid. I suppose you need to time your visit with the peak season for the roses being in bloom - so in spring, I guess. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

The one thing I have learnt about visiting Monaco is that a good pair of walking shoes is a must! The main part of Monaco is built into the side of a cliff so there can be a lot of uphill of downhill walking involved as you explore this amazing sovereign city-state!
There are lifts that can be used by the public to reach different street levels on the cliff but I found these both difficult to find, or to try and work out where they actually took you to!!
The Princess Grace Botanical Garden is situated within the Monaco-Ville area which is fairly high up on the cliff face. A beautiful and relaxing garden where you can get amazing views of the coast and down into the harbour.
This is a must visit area on a beautiful warm and sunny day!

This was part of a shore excursion booked through our cruiseline.

The view of the coastline is worth the stroll through this elegant and relaxing garden.

Nice for a casual stroll and had a playground suitable for young children. Was worth a visit to while away the afternoon.

If you want to walk to Monaco-ville without climbing a flight of stairs from the tender pier, you may like to read Tom Sheridan's port guide. He even provides marked photos as a visual guide. Very helpful. He has a collection of port guides in pdf that are free for download for non-commercial use. Thanks Tom!

The garden (Princess Grace Botanical Garden) next to the Oceanographic Museum is very nice! The Cathedral is very nice too! If you continue walking up, you will eventually see the Palace. Across from the right side of the Palace, there is a nice view of the Monte Carlo marina. There are some benches where you can sit.

If your next stop is the casino, you can take the stairs to the right of the Palace. At the bottom of the stairs, there is a WC (free-will donation to enter), a bus ticket machine, a police station. The bus ticket machine sells single ticket (1.5 euro from the machine; 2 euro from bus driver), 12-ticket for 10 euro, day passes (24 hrs pass for 5 euro).

Across from the WC, ticket machine and the police, there are some stores. In between, there are two roads. The closest one to you is the road going to the Oceanographic Museum. The farthest one is going to the Monte Carlo marina or casino. Cross the first street, and walk a few steps to your right, you will see the bus stop.

Bus stop near the Oceanographic Museum:

(I) The bus #1 or bus #2 stop is, one street over, across from the Oceanographic Museum.

Bus stops near the casino:

(1) Bus #1 stops (at the bottom of the garden) very close to the casino.

(2) Bus #2 stops (at the top of the garden), so it is a bit far from the casino. But you can get off before the stop at the top of the garden, so you can walk fewer step. If you intend to go back to Monaco-Ville by bus again, come back where you get off, then go across the street, you should find the bus stop. The garden is ok.
