Grimaldi Residence
Jun 2020
Originally built as a fortress, this palace atop Le Rocher is the private residence of the Grimaldi family. Limited tours are available and you can catch the changing of the guard at 11:55am daily. Well worth a visit, even if only from the outside. The sweeping views are spectacular as well.

Are You a Grace Kelly Fan?
Nov 2019
The palace is in easy walking distance from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Immaculate where Prince Rainer and Grace Kelly were married and buried. It is also near the Musei Oceanographique made famous by Jacque Cousteau. At the top of the rock the palace sits in a large public square surrounded by apartments of the rich. Formula 1 race car drivers and others. From the palace you can see the yachts of the rich and famous docked in the bay. At 12 pm there is a changing of the guard which always attracts a crowd.

Admission to the palace is 8 Euros and comes with an audio-guide. You can purchase a ticket online or at the entrance. Tickets are fee on some Sundays. The guide takes you through lavishly decorated state rooms that are strategically focused on photos of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainer, their marriage and life together. The architecture and history of the family is also mentioned. Many of the photos where taken by the media and government promotional releases. Grace Kelly is much loved in Monaco. The guide also elaborates upon the key features of the palace which are ornate and house fine furniture and artwork. I liked the armory and Throne room. The dress that Grace Kelly wore at her civil marriage in the palace is on display. as are correspondences and extracts from newspapers and film. Photos of the interior are not allowed. The entire tour takes less than an hour.

While in Monaco
Nov 2019
The palace and the [plaza where it is located is a pretty cool place to see the changing of the guards. The palace from the outside is not very lavished, but it is worth while visiting ,if you have not lost all your money ganmbling at the casino.

Stunning views
Aug 2019 • Couples

The official residence of the prince of Monaco. Beautiful views of the yachts in the bay from the gardens as well as residences of the rich and famous!

One has to find a spot in the shade for viewing the change of the guards.

Scenic plaza and buildings
Sep 2019
We did not tour the palace interior but spent a fair bit of time wandering the plaza, taking in the views and the changing of the guard.

A nice walk up to the palace but only if you’re quite fit!

We did not have time to go inside but it’s a nice photo opportunity and not too big to take in. We will go inside next time.

Could be Skipped
Sep 2019
I went on a Sunday, when the entrance is free. In that sense, it was a bit of a wait to go in (maybe 20min), but it was a nice visit. But not sure i'd recommend it if i've had to pay for it.
It's a very short visit to a few State rooms, very much focused on the first meeting between Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier. It really feels like they try to milk this story as much as possible. Palace is nice, but nothing remarkable, and comparable to any palace in Europe...

Great history lesson
Apr 2019
The principality does a great job trying to educate visitors about its history and this is no exception. The audio tour was informative about the key features of the palace. Also, the changing of the guard outside at noon is amazing!
