Nobody seems to have wrote a review of how to get to the lovely 3 lakes by public transport, so here goes.
From Andorra la Vella bus station catch a line 6 bus to Ordino,(la close) every half hour 1.9 euros, bus takes 30 mins.
Walk back around 100 metres to the bus stop outside the old tourist info centre now a gym.
Catch a minibus to el Serrat village, 12 minute journey 0.2 euro.
From same bus stop in el Serrat catch another mini bus to Arcalis resort by the ski lifts 7 minute journey, do not pay again as this bus is free as long as you have an el Serrat ticket.
From the ski lifts walk down the hill 100 metres then right down a dirt road for 200 metres, you will then see a sign on the left taking you up into the mountains.
The first lake takes around 45 minutes, the second a further 20 mins then another 20 to the last lake.
It took us 3.5 hours there and back including stops at each lake.
Walk back the same way down and catch the 3 buses back to the capital.
An alternative If the ski lifts are running is to use these then walk 30 minutes to the first lake.
Hope this helps folks who have not got a car.

This place is easy to acces by car and then you can walk or take the chairlift up to the top. We took the lift with our small dogs, a nice way that offer views over the lakes. The trail was pretty crowded and this was a more peaceful and faster way to the top. Its not as calm as some other trails you more or less have for yourself in Andorra but it is well worth a visit because the views are stunning! There is also a restaurant perfect for a drink or small meal after the hike.

A beautiful walk, fine for young children. I went with a family with children aged 3 and 6 years old and it was challenging at some parts but not impossible. The walk is then rewarded with amazing lakes to look at. We went in October and there was no snow, but it was still spectacular with all of the beautiful nature surrounding the lakes.
There are narrow paths in some places, with loose rocks. Closed shoes with some grip is needed, but hiking boots are not necessary. Running shoes would be fine, I'd even go in my Chuck Taylors if they weren't so old and had no grip.

There are 2 hikes you can take, we took the shorter one of about 30 minutes each way, but it took us way more than that because we had to absorb all the beauty of the place. We stayed there for about 2 hours or more, it's just that beautiful!
The hike isn't too difficult but it is uphill and there's a spot where you can might want to hold on to a rope / chain that they've put there.
Well worth the visit!

It took us no more than 20 minutes from the chair-lift station to get to the plateau. The trail is suitable even for families with young children.

We decided to go for the longer trail around lake Tristania which was fantastic with incredible views! The trail became more of a climb in a few places though so take your time, plenty of food and water too!

Its easy to see why its top rated, its so easy to get to. Less than 40 minutes to walk to the 3 lakes. Quite busy in august, water was fabulous . So take a towel!.
Dont take the lifts , as they take you way further up past and then its a long steep downhill walk if you wana be next to the lakes. Plenty of parking.

On a recent trip to Andorra our airbnb host recommended we visit the Lagos de Tristania. What an incredible time we had there. We were able to hike from the house we were staying at (in Serrat) and reached the lakes and base of the mountain after hiking about 3 hours. We were hoping to do the Pic de Tristania, but ran out of steam that day and had to still make our way back to the house. 2 days later, we took our car to the base of the trail which saved us about 2 hours, and we had more time to hike and enjoy the view. There was still a lot of snow even though it was late June, and that made parts of the trail a little difficult, but very worth it! We had our dog with us and she loved the adventure. We definitely will be back to take in the view again. It is like nothing we'd ever seen before.
Make sure to pack a picnic or at least some snacks and water!

one of the busiest walks in Andorra on a summers day but out of season it is really pleasant with three lovely lakes. park at the top of the Arcalis ski station as far as the road takes you and there is a lift with a small bar often shut in front of you. the route traverses to the left.

I'm wanting to spend two nights in Andorra starting tomorrow (3/12) and want to do a hike or two to see Lagos de Tristania. Will I be able to access it with a car okay? Will I need to get some snow chains?
