- Rose CDundee, United Kingdom41 contributionsWorth a tripLovely place to wander around. Traditional old Market surrounded with up market shops and nice paved streets. Lovely cafes and restaurants. Plenty taxis and seating also local bus.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 3, 2024
- treena FFarnborough, United Kingdom109 contributionsNothing out of the ordinaryUnfortunately this wasn’t really anything out of the ordinary. Lots of the usual kind of “shops” selling tourist stuff, with a few unusual stalls dotted in between. Perhaps it was the day and time that we went that it seemed very quiet, or just the heat and humidity. There was a lovely art installation of crochet though!Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 14, 2024
- Gillian C1 contributionNot really worth a visitBeen to a lot of markets throughout Europe and this was a bit disappointing. There seemed to be gaps everywhere and we were not even sure if we were actually in the market. I think it’s a shame as it could really be something as it is well positioned.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 30, 2024

We live in Cyprus & have previously visited the market-unfortunately today arrived to find the central area of the old market closed as it’s undergoing renovation.
The only stalls were a few open in the new part of the market that were added during some previous renovations several years ago.
Looking upon their face book pages couldn’t see any updated information about the current works unless I missed it!
Other information on the internet also doesn’t appear to mention these works!
Would be nice to know how long this renovation will continue for & some information about the aims & objectives of these works!
Hopefully it will be an improvement to what it was like as it had a very tired feeling & seemed to close very early lots of occasions!

Couldn’t understand why the reviews were so bad for the market as it’s a nice place to just spend a bit of time in the day. We visited in the day and it was very quiet - it is full of a lot of tourist type souvenirs, but it’s nice if you want to get one or two things to take back with you. We found a lot of the bars only opened later in the evening but we enjoyed having a few drinks at the cafes/bars that were open - all reasonably priced and much quieter than the places on the harbour which was well suited to us. Highly recommend the souvlaki place for a gyros too. Get the 610 bus from the harbour.

Thursday 13th October and we visited this market in the Old Town of Paphos.
This really was a bit of a disappointment it certainly was not what we were expecting. We were expecting a big old building filled with lots of stalls full of traditional goods, souvenirs and everything that tourists might not even want.
As we entered through the large arched doorway it was clear this was completely not what we were anticipating. It was a series of shops along corridors which surrounded a courtyard enclosed by modern glass doors. In fact when we were here workmen were at work in the courtyard.
The shops constantly mainly of clothing, leather goods, jewellery and handbags, all very similar. We had a quick walkabout and left.
Despite a number of signposts this was was not the easiest of places to find at in the end was not worth the effort or energy to find it.
The streets outside and around the market were more interesting and lined with small arts & crafts, speciality and tourist shops. It appeared that most of the area had been demolished and the shops were housed in new buildings.

After watching videos on YouTube about the market I was really looking forward to visiting but we just couldn’t find it. The old town is really hard to navigate. We found a lovely little cafe and had some lovely fresh juices and walked around a few little shops but I wouldn’t really call it a market it was opposite the cafe Nero area. We tried again one evening but the whole place was closed up at night apart from a couple of sea food restaurants. It was a bit disappointing.

The tourist part of Paphos at the bay is a tip just now (April, 2023). A large part of the centre looks like a building site, and there would seem to be many months yet before the work is complete. We came here because of a nice week's holiday five or six years ago, but the place is a teriible let-down this time.

A great place to visit when in Paphos. Lots of great merchandise, food, views, and character. Some contemporary updates are taking place, but the area still holds some old time charm. Cafe Nero has taken up a prime spot, and is a good spot for an Americano.

We decided to pop in on Saturday Morning.
The parking is via the app which we declined to decipher and found a parking spot round the corner.
It’s a weird thing to be in sunny Cyprus and crave a bland Marks & Spencer sandwich. But we were, and there are no sandwiches in this local branch 😢
It is stocked with the dregs of the clothes from previous sales, and sales before that and so on.
Back to the market it’s a nice walk through the streets but all shops are stocking the same nylon style clothing, poor Z list quality replica handbags and souvenirs.
I love shopping but nothing took my fancy.
Kids football tops were quite cheap but again I don’t hold much hope for them in the wash.
Lots of outside seating and cafes.
No sign of any fresh produce or fruit/veg market.
Do Cyprus not have a street food scene? A couple of stalls doing fresh falafel/salad in pitta would have been perfect!

Maybe we were there out of season ? Start of May ? Surrounding streets had plenty of lovely little shops.
We were very underwhelmed by the actual indoor ‘municipal market’ covered market building Itself. Just a small square building with a few stalls selling clothes and one with leather goods. Less than a dozen stalls in total. Not at all what we were expecting

As it was only the second week in the season there were not many stalls open but the places that were are packed with everything you need. Leather goods, football shirts, sweets and 'trinkets'. Can't wait to go back when it's busier. One thing I will say is the lift wasn't working so it is quite a climb from the bus stop.

If you are in Cyprus and you are staying near Pafos, it would be a shame to miss this outing. Short walk of around 2 hours.
The hardest part is parking. In the center of Paphos, all parking spaces are subject to payment... except that there is no parking meter.. to pay for your parking space you have to download the application, geolocate yourself, find the right place where you parked on the application, then make the payment online by credit card... the big hassle, especially with our little one in the car who was starting to lose patience....
We ended up giving up and moving away from the center to find a free place... not easy but we were lucky!
Once you arrive in the center and the pedestrian zone, there are lots of nice little shops one after the other even if they all sell mostly similar products: olive oil soaps, traditional Cypriot products, spices, magnets, tea towels. signed cyprus etc etc... Practical for finding ideas for small souvenir gifts.
Don't hesitate to stop for a squeeze of orange juice. They are delicious and very reasonably priced.
Walk to do in a morning at most.

Is there parking? Is there a charge?

What time do tourist shops shut
Written July 21, 2022
I’m not sure exactly but when we went back early evening 6-7pm everything was closed up like a ghost town as opposed to kato Paphos which was really lively and fully open. It’s a real shame as business will be slow coming back if they don’t open for tourists especially in the evening when it’s cool and people like to walk round.

Hi what time is the market open?
Also is it near the bus stop in Paphos.
Written May 16, 2019
You can get a bus from the Harbour station with the bus stop for the Old Town opposite the market. €1.50 each way. About 5-10 minutes by bus.
Written August 6, 2019
Certainly it was open Mon to Sat. I would not anticipate it being open on a Sunday though.

Hi where is the market and is it open in winter. Thanks
Written January 10, 2019
The market is in the old town. You can’t really miss it if you are up there as it is just up the road from the main old town car park. There is also a small fruit an veg market adjacent to the car park but the main shopping market is up the road. Whether it is open I. Winter I cannot say, but since Cyprus is a tourist destination all year round, I would expect it is.
