Excellent natural gorge and well worth seeing. Its cut of the way so you will need your own transport. Take your camera and wear decent walking shoes not flip flops.

Found this place on Google maps and decided to have a look - glad we did as it was exactly the sort of adventure my family loves. The unpaved road seemed a little alarming in our tatty little rental car, so we left it at...More

travelled all over the area, getting lost often. actually ran into a goat herd and must have been 100 goats.the terrain was stony, quite off the beaten track at times and the dust was terrible. but the views were amazing, something different round every corner.

Driving through the gorge on route to the restaurant nestled atop the peak… a priceless moment in nature. Stunning views! A great excursion to be had by 4x4.

Park up by the toilets and walk from there. It's about a 3.5 mile hike/clamber through the gorge and then you have to come back and do the distance again. Loads of lizards and several goats. We enjoyed it.

I was a little concerned because we were visiting the day after major thunderstorms in the area but the water level was very low and we had no trouble. You can park the car on the large patch of ground where you can see the...More

We had a full day out by jeep, travelling off road over the Akanas peninsular. The views are simply stunning and a great adventure! Recommended if you go to Paphos.

We walked along the gorge for around a half hour and back as part of a Jeep safari stop. A lovely walk, great views of the cliffs on either side and amazing rocks. Stepping stones over stream-bed are slippery and saw a couple of people...More

We went with GeorgesJeepSafari, our driver Paul was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly guy. It was great to see the local villages, turtle sanctuary, and Lara Beach. Lunch in Latchi was excellent. I highly recommend the tour.

Good afternoon out, road to it is a dirt track but easy in any car (even coaches get there!). We parked at the top (not down on the main car park) and walked the 100 metres down to the main car park & toilets. From...More

Absolutely do not go on a tour. You will not get enough time to walk right through and the section that you do do will be crowded!

No, you do not. As long as the road is dry you can drive all the way to the enormous car park at the entrance in a small car such as our Polo. When you get to the Castle restaurant, go down the track to the right.

There is no bus to take you there. If you are adventurous you can hire a small open roof four wheel motor bike (carries 2 people) and can use it to explore the area further like the Lara beach for example. Other ways... More

Avakas Gorge (4 Replies)
We are holidaying in Latchi 9 - 16 April and would like to walk the Avakas Gorge, but are wondering about the logistics of it. Are there any trips that drop you off one end and pick you up the other? Is it possible at this time of year, or will there be too much water in the river/stream? Thanks

Do we need a 4 x 4 rental car for our April itinerary? (6 Replies)
We will be visiting Cyprus in early April, staying in Pissouri village, and intend to hire a car for the duration of our trip. Amongst others we plan to: - Drive from Latchi to the Aphrodite baths parking for the beach opposite and a little walk along (the easy level part:) of the trail - Drive through Neo Chorio to the parking for the Smidgies trail - Park at Avakas Gorge and venture at least some of the way into the gorge (unless it's likely to be very wet and slippery at this time...More

You would probably manage in a normal car,. However, if you read the small print in the rental agreement, you will most likely find that driving on unsealed roads is prohibited. The road to Avakas is unsealed. The road to Smidgies picnic site is concreted so probably counts as sealed. The others are all sealed. You need to walk to Caledonia Waterfalls from a sealed road.
