This little walk is an absolute must for those who love to see nature in its splendor.
Even at the end of a 6 months dry season, it is still worth visiting.
If lucky (as I was), you'll have an encounter with a wild goat or maybe other wildlife.
The limestone rocks in the gorge are beatifuly eroded by the river.
Ask the guide about the trees and bushes, you might be surprised by its diversity and their connection with ancien myths.

So we did this trail during our trip to Cyprus, I'm 65 with a dodgy knee & my husband is 68, but we are both fairly fit & walk regularly.

We parked in the first car park at the bottom, it took us 20 minutes to reach the picnic/toilet area with tour jeeps passing fairly regularly & kicking up clouds if dust. We probably could have driven further along the dirt road but didn't want to risk it. There is actually a lovely flat path that goes through a garden/valley area just on the right of the track up to the gorge which in hindsight we wished we had taken.

It was very busy today with younger people rushing along. It is quite slippy & at one point I told my husband I wasn't really enjoying it but I was determined to make it at least to the point where the large boulder sits across the gorge. As we continued my confidence grew & we actually made it to the point where the path continues steeply uphill before we turned around. My husband & some very nice people helped me on two occasions which involved a very large step up, difficult for me with my dodgy knee.

We both wore sensible walking sandals/shoes & took walking poles. I only got my foot wet once when I slipped slightly. I did enjoy the walk, it is very pretty but you do need to take care.

We wanted more of a hiking adventure so decided to check out Avakas Gorge. The drive to the start is VERY rocky and not any regular car can make it through. You definitely need a Jeep. The hike through the Gorge takes about an hour depending how far in you go, but it is very peaceful and beautiful. As you get further in, it gets muddy and you need to cross through puddles and wet rocks. Wear proper shoes because you can easily get hurt. Try to go earlier in the day when there are fewer people passing through and it is cooler out. Also keep an eye on the mountain ridges when walking in as you may see some goats.

Booked this as a half day trip. The drive there was ace, driver casually bombing over the dirt roads with expertise. The hike to the gorge was reminiscent of an Indiana Jones film 😂. Our guide was lovely and funny and despite doing this trip 4 times a day still made it feel unique. I loved every min. Finished off with a drive to Lara Beach for a drink and a snack which was perfect. Wear comfy shoes and take water. It's not a long hike but extremely hot and dry. A lovely side to paphos in cj trast to shops and bars. Recommended.

Early morning is muct better for a visit. Last 5-7km of the road is very bumpy, please be careful. Especially if you have a rental car with low clearance. At the place we saw and heard lots of pigeons and small crows. At few narrow places we witness falling rocks. Small, but big enough for injuries. Don't look up. During spring time the place is full of flowers, but in August it is rather dusty.

This was a beautiful place to walk for our family, though it was a super hot day (31C, felt like 41C). Gorge provided welcome shelter.

Getting there was fun - a short drive from Paphos with a stretch and inclines on dusty tracks. Hire cars can do it but needs a confident driver (and perhaps passengers too). We didn't drive down the final hill towards the gorge car park as I wasn't sure what was down there, but on reflection I would have done had we gone a second time.

The heat made the walk shorter and a bit more challenging, not because of the gorge but the short walk to get there from the car park. Take some trainers (not sandals of flip flops) or other half decent shoes. My boys put on their aqua shoes once in the gorge and happily walked through the water.

Once you're in, the surroundings are beautiful. The downside is that it is a linear walk so we went as far as went wanted to, knowing we had to turn back and do the same in reverse. Had it been cooler, we would have walked more.

Overall a good walk. If we were to come again I would consider doing the walk in the morning then have lunch at Viklari nearby.

We were lucky to visited during lockdown in January. This meant we had to gorged herself. It is better to go sometime after 10 am so when the Sun is directly overhead the light spills into the court itself. However you need to be aware that if it has rained in the day or two before your visit is unlikely you’ll be able to get far up the gorge as it will have flooded. You should be prepared to get your feet wet in places you need to actually climb over rather large boulders which are in the way. It can be narrow in places and what I imagine is that during peak season it might be a bit of a nightmare with tourists. The walk from the parking place to the entrance of the coach is approximately 1 mile across a field there are toilets towards the entrance and a car park there as well.

Such a beautiful hike, filled with natural beauty. It was easy to find (I parked in the car park near the beach to avoid the dirt road) and well signed. As it was August when I visited I went very early and I am so glad I did, I had the gorge to myself, and was only passed by herds of goats and countless lizards! I hiked the length of the gorge, and on my way back it was far busier with many tourist groups. Definitely worth the trip, wear sensible shoes as there is a lot of scrambling to do, and parts can be very slippy as the rocks are wet.

This was an excellent trip, though we didn't manage to go through the whole gorge (not enough time). First, I'd like to encourage all those who travel in Cyprus by bus. We made it by bus and by foot! We started from Paphos to Coral Bay with the bus 615 around 10:30 am, and next 616 to Agios Georgios Pegeias. We asked the driver to drop us off on the way to gorge. And the way was amazing! It goes along the coast, though in the distance of several hundred meters from it, but gives fantastic views. It took us ca. 55 min to reach the way to gorge and we weren't in a rush. Then, there are several minutes of marching to the last point where the cars can be parked and, finally, we started the direct hiking to gorge. It was February, just after heavy rain the day before, so the gorge was filled with water. I took my shoes off and continue barefoot. Oh, it was so much fun! Though, appropriate shoes are highly advised here. Especially in Summer due to vipers.
We didn't have enough time to walk the whole gorge but we still had the chance to admire its stunning and rocky beauty. And we made it to the last bus to Coral Bay at 5 pm in Agios Georgios Pegeias. I still have these gorgeous views in my mind.

We came here on a family holiday with 4 kids (3-11) and they all enjoyed. The scenery was stunning, and the hike was very manageable for kids even if a bit challenging in areas. The drive up to the car park is a bit bumpy but well worth it!
