- Sidma40 contributionsNice but not extraordinaryA quick stop at Pafos Castle, why not if you're in the area. Afterwards, it's not worth making the detour just for this visit. €2.50 entry, we thought it was a little expensive... but in 5-10 minutes the tour is done. We go up a staircase and admire the view... that's all. Compared to the archaeological site of Kato Pafos where you spend 2-3 hours for €4.50... the choice is quickly made!Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 2, 2024
- Sasha Marie2,021 contributionsFor the love of castlesI personally love anything that mildly resembles a castle or any old ruin really so I enjoyed visiting Paphos castle. The walk to the castle through the harbour was lovely with different decorative boats and even a pelican came on land to eat at a cafe! Would recommend visit here, even if it is just to see some of the culture and history. Great views which is pretty much what you pay for as the inside is brisk.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 2, 2024
- Adam LHartley Wintney, United Kingdom165 contributionsPaphos Castle.Due to it's size, its a very quick visit. Staff are friendly, it's entry fee is very cheap and reasonable. Not much to see but nice to say you've visited. History boards in the lobby explain the site in a fair amount of detail. Would reccomend but wouldn't make a purpose visit/travel for a long time. Pop in, if you're in the area!Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 2, 2024
- DegustibusromanoRome, Italy3,475 contributionsbeautiful at sunsetthe castle is not large and does not retain much but is placed in a beautiful location next to the sea and if you arrive at sunset the view is fascinating .. Cost 2.50 euros free for pensioners over 65 years. Then take a walk along the waterfront equipped with modern sculyures right on the rocky cist.Visited December 2024Traveled soloWritten December 20, 2024
- Chris HBristol, United Kingdom2,173 contributionsif you are there it's worth a peep insideWe weren't going to bother to pay the (modest) fee to go inside, but were waved through because we are over 65. One advantage of getting older. My wife couldn't manage the steep stairs to the roof, but I did and there are good views along the coast. There's not a lot to see inside - mostly plain walls and few explanations of the history.Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 29, 2024
- ArtistSeaton, United Kingdom130 contributionsWell preserved local landmarkGreat site worth a look. Historic site since 12 century with different uses since then. Climb up to the roof for great views. Safe to climb and railings around so ok for those not sure about heights. Just don’t lean on anything too much. Probably a welcome place of shade on a hot day. Nice walking around the harbour as an addition and the path carries on up the coast past the lighthouse.Visited February 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten February 4, 2025

We had a fun morning exploring Paphos castle with our 3 sons, 10, 9 and 1 years old.
It was €2.50 per person (baby was free).
We had a good time having a look around, but from the other castles we have visited, it’s definitely not as impressive as some of the others.
Also, you are unable to go right to the very top, as this is padlocked and no access is allowed.

Small castle located in the Paphos harbour. The entry costs €2.50 and you can buy the tickets at the door. It's quite a small attraction so you can cover the entire place in 5-10 mins. If you're not afraid of heights, then you can visit the rooftop and experience the wonderful views. But you have to be careful on windy days like today when the wind can easily push you over the barriers as it's very intense up there.

This small "fort" is located at the end of the esplanade and looks as if a visit might be interesting. When we visited on a Sunday, the blaring music accompanied the many children (participating) and parents (watching) at the basketball sessions.
There is a ramped access to the entrance and a fee of 2.5 euros is payable to the attendant and a ticket should be requested.
This is in reality a conservation exhibition and the numerous "staged" displays provide evidence of polluting mankind. Some of the wall-mounted pictures were excellent and the identifications very informative.
The internal stairs leading to the upper level is steep and despite the hand support provided, may be difficult for many people. That said, the view from this level is excellent but the debris discarded by visitors is disappointing.

On their website is written that in august you can visit castle until 7:30pm. We came at 6:55 and rude man who are selling tickets just yelled closed and kicked us out. Around 10 people tried to enter after us and he just kicked them all out.

The castle is a small building down near the sea. While it is small it’s not without history or interesting architecture. Cost is €2.50 per adult to get in and it doesn’t take long to walk around inside and the roof but it’s well worth a visit.

Wednesday 5th October we walked the length of Paphos Harbour to the far end where this old Castle is located.
The original Byzantine fortress was built to protect the harbour, it was destroyed in the earthquake of 1222. It was subsequently rebuilt and enlarged by the Lusignans in the 13th century. It was then restored by the Ottomans in 1592.
The Castle is open daily from 08.30 to 19.30 with an entrance fee €2.50 per person. There is wheelchair access to ground floor but not the first floor. From there parapets of the first floor there are views across the harbour and the bay.
We did not go in to the Castle however we did stop for a while to admire this grand old building.
The Castle does create an impressive sight in the harbour and was visible as we walked along Paphos Promenade

This is a small castle situated on the breakwater to the harbour. It is easily accessed but there are steps to the upper part however the views from the top of Kato Pafos and the backdrop of mountains are well worth seeing.
The castle was part of the defensive features of the town in the 14th century and has been restored in more modern times. The cost of admission is very reasonable being 2.50 euros (Senior citizens pay half price) but the guide is only available via a QR code although there is an explanation board just inside the entrance.

We payed to do the full tour and it was worth it for the views from the top alone.
They had some artwork which added some interest but the history of the castle and role it played over the years was interesting.
The views from the top out to sea and across the harbour were well worth it and gave chance for some amazing photos, we didn't see it at nighttime but would be awesome at sunset i imagine.

This was our 2nd visit to Paphos Harbour, last time the castle was closed but we were glad to see it open this time but were disappointed that it cost €2.50 each to get in, this isn't much but not worth it for us as we only wanted a quick look around. We could walk around the outskirts and take a few pictures.
If you enjoy history we are sure this would be a great place to visit and worth the entry fee.

The Harbour is a beautiful place to visit for a lovely day out. You can visit the castle and the Archeological site (both only a couple of euros for entering) or just lounge on the beach at the other end. Wear suitable shoes as there are a lot of rocky areas that are worth the climb. There was a lot of construction work going on but it didn't distract us. There are shops and cafes/restaurants all down the strip so you can stop and have a meal/drink/ice cream as you please. There are people trying to encourage you to eat/drink but no pushy people which was nice. Everyone was friendly too.

where is the best place to park at the Paphos harbour?
Written October 26, 2016
There is a car park at the harbour -you can usually find parking there (sometimes it can be full, especially late evenings - in which case you have to just circle the car park until a place becomes available - not too long usually. Or arrive earlier in the evening and then there are usually no problems).
