- Emma-Louise ALeicester, United Kingdom25 contributionsThe Old Town of Paphos has clearly had some money spent on it in terms of modernization. We only visited on a Monday evening, and it was extremely quiet. However, based on the few hours we were there, we enjoyed exploring with the kids and felt extremely safe. Everywhere was clean, and I would say it's worth a trip to check it off the list.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 2, 2024
- Anne187064116 contributionsDefinitely worth a visit and have some lunch as you look out over Pathos. Make sure you walk through all the old streets and alleys. Easy to get there, 610 bus from Pathos harbour depot, two euros single fare, buses run every 15 mins but check with girl at depot kiosk who will give you a timetable, she was very helpful and friendly.Visited January 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten January 3, 2025
- mikechubbPenrith, United Kingdom29 contributionsDon’t often write reviews but felt i had to due to some negative ones on here ! Honestly think some people must have gone to the wrong area or not ventured far enough into the labyrinth of shops, bars and restaurants . We went early evening on a Friday when sun had set and it was lovely, shops still open and bars just starting to get busy. By the time we came away at 9ish it was really heaving and a lovely atmosphere as people sat outside bars drinking and chatting. A lot of money has been spent on pedestrianising the central area and it was well worth it,one of the best parts of our holiday!Visited November 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 1, 2024
- buddy1506Chichester, United Kingdom55 contributionsThis was not what I expected. The market is a number of stools set up for tourists that are all very similar. Not the market experience I was expecting. There is nice pedestrianised area, but many of the shops / bars had closed down meaning there are a lot of empty units diminishing the experience of an ‘old town’ that I was looking for. Great view from the bus station over the sea and harbour. I would thoroughly recommend Sykaminia Cafe for lunch - which is opposite Cafe Nero near the bus station. Great atmosphere and well priced fresh food. Nice views towards the ocean, The town is worth a visit, but lower your expectations.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 21, 2024
- Val J20 contributionsBeautiful place. Visited the centre, with its beautiful white buildings, then walk through the shopping area to the municipal Market, then along the front to see lovely bars and restaurants in the sunshine with views over to the sea, Paphos and the archaeological Park. A must do just 10 mins bus ride up the hill from the bus station on the 618.Visited March 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten March 10, 2025
- Vanessa V40 contributionsThe "old" town was pleasant to walk through but not so special. Lots of souvenir shops and plenty of opportunities to eat something. Given the high altitude of the old town you do have a nice view over Paphos. If you do some research in advance , then of course you know that the old town is not an authentic old town that catapults you back in time , there has been a lot of modernisation . I wouldn't detour for hours, but if you're around, you'll want to have been there.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 3, 2024
- Florence BTel Aviv, Israel456 contributionsI think we went at an off hour so it was very quiet. There are many souvenir shops and cafes. It easily accessible with the 610 bus from the harbor. Given that it’s on a mountain it affords great views of the Paphos coastline and lighthouse. We liked having another perspective of the city.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 21, 2024
- Beaver-89169 contributionsThe center of Old Paphos is a real treat. Superbly designed pedestrian zones with beautifully designed buildings, nice cafes and restaurants invite you to stroll and explore. We were at an art exhibition in the cultural center. The best are the public squares with a view down to the sea in the evening sun!!!Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 14, 2024
- Gomersal-08225 contributionsThere is no “Old Town” at the location shown on Google maps. There’s the town hall and square nearby which is worth a look in passing. The best part of Paphos town is the streets around the municipal market (which is just a few clothes and jewellery stalls, not a traditional market). It’s interesting to visit for an hour and have a drink or eat at one of the sea view restaurants, but definitely not a day trip!Visited March 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten March 10, 2025
- RLBAllenLoughborough, United Kingdom757 contributionslaid back little old town. walked across and up the hill from tomb of the kings (wouldnt want to do in heat if summer!), through some of the old streets and through the market. We did read the reviews before we went but didn't like to be put off, please take notice of the reviews! Lots of shops were shut, or boarded up, some derelict. Needs some heavy investment to get it up to standard which is a real shame because it could be lovely. There were some lovely people in the little market, in particular a little shop selling handmade jewelry. There was a fantastic bright pink cafe called Stephanie Rose which did fantastic ice-cream and milkshakes and cakes, where we were waited on by a really lovely lady. We did go at around 5:30pm so many other shops were shut but to be honest it wouldn't have saved the trip (we had to take 2 buses to get there!) Not many old buildings to admire and just didn't have much life about it. I recommend spending your precious holiday time elsewhere.

This area is well worth a visit and I would suggest that it is missed by the majority of the people who visit Pafos; that is their loss.
There is a regular bus service from the Harbour Station (Service 615 cost 1.50 euros one way per person) and a bus stop right outside the entrance to the Market Hall. There are plentiful shops, restaurants, cafes and bars in the Old Town and some interesting landmarks as well as wall murals.
The Old Town still has remnants of it's history but more modern buildings are springing up which may not be to everyone's liking.
So, if you are stuck for something to do and tired of Kato Pafos get yourself up the hill and have a wander around; the view is good as well!

i did write a review few days back, my legs could not help but come back. Today’s meal was even better. The Red mullet and fish were fried to such perfection that I ate the lot, head tail and all. Never tasted better calamari, better ceviche, never had such impeccable service. Believe me not being paid for this review and would come back daily without hesitation.
The price not cheap nor expensive and no one should complain in view of the quality and perfection of the cooking
Yum yum

We stopped here briefly (for an hour) off the sightseeing bus to check out the ‘Old Town’. Yes I’ll agree there’s no cobbled streets or donkeys and it probably doesn’t have the same charm as your Spanish old towns but we quite liked it. There’s a lot of shops selling the same old overpriced touristy tat (but it’s cheaper than at the harbour side and the shop keepers are much friendlier!). And if you keep wandering around you will find some hidden gems where there are a few selling handmade things. (Look for the art shop which supports lots of local artists it’s particularly good!) Generally though we thought It had a nice feel to it with quite a few little tavernas and restaurants mixed in amongst the shops. Plenty of variety to keep my ‘easily bored’ teens shopping for a bit!

Thursday 13th October and we took a stroll around the Old Town of Paphos.
There were some interesting parts but sadly there is not much character, rather soulless. A lot of it is a building site with old buildings being knocked down and replaced with new ones. It appeared that nothing seems to be restored, demolition and rebuild seems to be the preferred option.
Some of the old buildings still remaining were in a state of disrepair and crumbling, no doubt they will be demolished and rebuilt. There were some well maintained old buildings to see, not too many.
There was lots of graffiti around which really did add to the sense of depression and decline.
We did visit the Municipal Market (reviewed separately) which was a waste of time. The narrow streets around the market were lined with new build modern shops selling mostly souvenirs.

We travelled here in the morning and it was quiet until about 10am compared to when we were leaving. Easy access via bus 610. Parts of the town are being refurbished so a lot of builders around when we were there! There are beautiful tavernas, little cafes as well as the market itself. There are also historic buildings dotted about as well as street art. Definitely worth a visit to see a glimpse of old Cyprus. The market itself is what you’d imagine: hand bags, Cypriot material, souvenirs, leather etc! We got some bargains!

To me, the Old Town of Paphos is an area of many faces. You can walk through the streets which are the busiest, with the souvenir shops, taverns and cafés, but you can also expore the part where you can find the small cypriot houses which all look quite identical to each other and the streets that are filled with them look orderly and pretty. You can also find some interesting frescos on the sides of some of the buildings. The location is easily reachable, if you are coming from the part of Paphos which is lover in altitude, you can choose between taking the stairs or one of the two elevators to get up. Unfortunately, the souvenir shops are not open on the weekends which is a shame.

We visited Paphos Old Town expecting to experience some stunning architectural features and some Cyprus history. What a total and utter disappointment. The town has been “developed “ over the past few years apparently on the say so of the town mayor. What a disaster. It looks like a run down town you would find anywhere in the UK, with boarded up shops and a soulless pedestrian centre. The only one feature was an old Turkish church which has been partly restored, but is closed to the public and boarded up. The old market place doesn’t exist anymore and in it’s place are dozens of stalls all flogging the same trash.
We were stunned at what a poor state Paphos town is actually in. There’s absolutely nothing worth going there for now. The soul has been torn out of this town which once would have been a treasure and a delight to see. Very sad!

Should be renamed 'New town' Paphos. Acknowledging that we visited 'off season' (February), there's not much that's old about this area of Paphos. There is a lot of construction going on, and it appears to be a generic makeover of the area, with lots of plain white walls and facades that have little character or individuality that one comes to expect with old villages and towns.
Speaking to a local builder, it seems to be the work of the Mayor who has seen fit to carry out the work in this fashion. This strategy is apparently NOT popular with the local people - even if they are employed in carrying it out it seems! Many of the units are empty, and the Municipal market consists of a few stalls selling their wares. There is a charming shop ('Spaces'?) where they exhibit and demonstrate local crafts and skills, including glassblowing, weaving and pottery.
There are numerous bars and cafe's that no doubt are open and busy in the summer, and we enjoyed a drink or two, with a lovely view over Paphos and out to sea. Overall, very disappointing.

Добрый день. В старом городе, возле Мичети, находится каменная ванна, это ванна Афродиты?
Written February 9, 2020

Hi
We are planning to go to Cyprus for Christmas. We have been before but stayed closer to coral bay but this year we thought the old town would be a nice change. I know some business close over the winter months but in the old town are most things likely to stay open?
