I was drawn to this church, named for Lazarus (yes, that Lazarus!) who came to Cyprus, after he was raised from the dead, and he was made Bishop of Kition as Larnaca was called then. It was built in the 11th century! The battle of Hastings was in the 11th century! It's in excellent condition and houses some incredible art... More

Very pleasant medium sized church with tons of history. Nice museum a few hundred foot to the rear. Some great Greek style art work, much of the original work was sized in the North / South Cyprus dispute but still very worth a visit.

A beautiful example of Greek/Byzantine temple. The interior is really impressive and on the side, there is a small but very nice museum of Byzantine religious culture. I have no Christian background, then I was not able to understand the importance of some of the features, then I think a small research before the visit is convenient.

We were lucky to visit st. Lazarus church at sunset, so all the place was filled with peace and tranquillity. The church looked a pure gold, warmly glittering in the middle of the square. Scent of history and last rays of the sun have composed a unique ambience. Simply loved it and wish to visit again.

We came to Larnaka on Sunday and, unfortunately, the church has just closed for what I guess was lunch break (14.30) only to be opened an hour later. The visiting hours on the noticeboard were a bit weird overall, but if you're staying in Larnaka for few days, then you'll have a chance to see it. The church square is... More

The church is one of the most remarkable examples of Byzantine architecture in Cyprus.Saint Lazarus came to Cyprus after being resurrected by Jesus, was ordained as Bishop of Kition by the Apostles Barnabas and Paul and lived here for 30 years. His tomb can be seen under the sanctuary.
