I am someone who is in love with our history, religion, and gothic architecture. It was a great experience for me to see this place. Unfortunately, I couldn't see the inside because it was prayer time. This is an excuse to come again :). It's a wonderful building, wonderfully respected. If you go to Famagusta, do not leave without seeing it.

Architecturally this is a really wonderful building and a great example of gothic architecture. Its actual building took a long period of time to be completed, from 1298 to about 1400. Over time it has been a christian, then a muslim place of worship. Originally it was known as the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas but later the name was changed to Ayasofya (Saint Sophia) Mosque when it wcame under muslim control. One cannot help but be in awe of such stunning architectural achievement. Worth visiting.

In the middle of Famagusta walled city ... you can not missed it. The facade architecture is amazing but unfortunately needs renovation.

The largest former church in Famagusta, built by the French in flamboyant Gothic style, and weathered to gold by the Eastern sun and winds. The Turks added a sleek minaret, and kept the interior empty and white, doing a great service to its sleek ogival arches and columns.

The one you must see in Magusa which is located in the old town and was built during the French Lusignan dynasty and its just like little Rheims and now converted to a mosque.the main fasade in west side is quite impressive with three large conopied doorways with excellent carvings on the stone and a big rose window.it's surrounding area is a nice urban space with plenty shops and cosy caffes and the oldest living creature in the island is a big old tree in it's courtyard.

If this building was in Rome you would be facing long queues to get near it. Amazing architecture. Living history.
If you are in Famagusta do go and see it.

A lovely building in old Famagusta town. It’s in a central courtyard with lots of bars and shops leading off . It’s worth going with a guide who will fill in information. Not too many leaflets or translations around.

Great but nothing else there in the area apart from a few shops and the mosque which was a cathedral turned into a mosque.
Lots of Islamic info by taking free quran and books which is a good way for those who don't understand Islamic religion

Hello,
I shall be travelling to Famagusta to meet my fiance within the next few days. We are both Muslim. Can we get married at this Mosque? If so, do we have to make an appointment? Is there any legal documents that we need to bring with us (i.e Passport, Birth Cerificate)?
Regards,
Daniella Sawyer
