This attractive building has a beautiful interior. There are several icons of the various saints and today St. Barnabas is honoured as a Cypriannational saint.

is he there in the chapel? Some swallows certainly were. The icons in the church are of course worth seeing but I was actually very imporessed by the archaeological museum, particularly the terracotta figurines

The tomb of St. Barnabas who travelled with Apostle Paul and then split is about 100 yards from the Monastry which holds a plethora of important large ikons of well known characters in the bible. 3 brothers, monks at the monastry, painted the ikons in the 20th century but some are from well before that. Part of the monastry has been converted into a museum with crockery and valuable artefacts found around the area.

Not far from Salamis this is in effect an Ikon Museum in an old Greek Orthodox Monastery. Inside are a number of Ikons and some frescoes (old and more recent). The surroundings are peaceful and a short walk away is the tomb of St Barnabas (Varnavas). THe visit will not take you too long so a stop is worthwhile.

Like other monasteries in north Cyprus this is now little more than a museum or gallery of icons and it feels rather abandoned. The tomb is pretty on the outside and creepy inside with cleaning materials lying next to the coffin of the saint.

Typically not that excited about monasteries, churches, religious sites, etc., (and I know, that covers a wide range of sites/sights) perhaps I'm not the best to write an open-minded review of, well, a monastery.

That said, I thought it was okay, just not spectacular. It's worth visiting if you're in the area because the setting is really pretty--and if you're lucky (and a fan of dogs), there might be some little puppies frolicking around the courtyard--otherwise, I can't say it did a whole lot for me.

This was a nice place! A very nice monastery, nice surroundings and on the way we got to feed some rather stubborn donkeys with carrots! To drink from a sacred well did us good! Also nice place to buy olive oil, provided you didnt do it on the tourist street!

Located on the outskirts of Famagusta. Our coach tour stopped here enroute to the main town. Very pretty and well maintained building on the outside. Inside is interesting and the items are well cared for in the main section including the frescos on the walls.

The church houses a collection of icons i.a. of not so wellknown local saints. Do take your time also to visit the small archelogical museum with many fine artefacts i.a. potter ware.
