This was a major abbey in Luxembourg. Today the Neumunster houses a small church, a venue for performing arts as well as a small cafe. The cloister is quite impressive and the view of the valley very picturesque.

Don't miss a tour to Neimenster (ancient abbey) in Luxembourg old town; many interesting exhibitions are there and a lot of history

This wonderful historic Abby has been beautifully renovated and is now used as a cultural center, hosting musical events, a charming cafe, and a gallery that has excellent art exhibitions of local and international artists. Located in the picturesque “grund”, the valley between the upper and lower city, that also has pubs restaurants and is a great place to stroll and take in the feel of the city.

This is a free museum, which holds a number of temporary and permanent exhibitions at any given time. The stuff are also super friendly (Claudio and I ended up having a long conversation about Brexit no less!).
There is an interesting exhibition showing the down sides of our clothing culture, comprised of striking photos. However, the main standout was the temporary Nazi exhibition from Washington, about propaganda. This is an absolutely must see. The focus is on the power of propaganda and the tools used (and less on the terrible atrocities committed by the Nazi regime).

The cultural centre covers a vast area in the centre of the city. Oddly entry is through a single side door which takes you through to a reception area. On the ground floor there are photos showing the building in one of its former lives as a prison. Up a splendid staircase brings you to a modern art sculpture gallery, then through to photographic and modern art galleries. The place is vast and no expense has been spared in its conversion from a dilapidated prison.
We found the displays a little haphazard with little information on the art displayed. As a building, it is very impressive but the content in our view is skippable unless you run out of things to do.

This Abey is truly the centerpiece of the Grund area, below in lower town. It makes the pictures from above pop out, as it gives the area all its charm and splendor!

Neumünster Abbey is a public meeting place and cultural centre, located in the Grund district of Luxembourg City. Grund is one of 24 "quarters" or districts of the city. The original Benedictine abbey on the Altmünster Plateau was destroyed in 1542. The monks built a new abbey or "Neumünster" in 1606. Panoramas offer a visual perspective of the history of Old Town nestled on the Alzette.

An old Abbey which is renovated and is used now for exhibitions, concerts and conferences. It looks beautiful to see the surroundings when you're in the middle of the square.
