Knowing practically nothing about Luxembourg, this museum provided a great foundation for the rest of our visit. The geographical, political, historical, and artistic facets of Luxembourg are presented in a manageable-sized institution. Good value too!

I stumbled on this museum by accident, but I was really happy that I did. The museum seems freshly renovated and all exhibits were very well done and explained in three languages (German, French and English). The museum contains a history of the city dating back to the stone age, an art collection and varying special exhibits. The history of... More

Probably the best city museum I have been together with the Museum of London and the Historic Museum of Barcelona. The panoramic elevator is grandiose and, only that, would worth the entry.

The museum is a nice quiet overview of the history of the city and features interesting facts and artifacts. We used our Luxembourg cards for entry and spent an hour or maybe closer to two. My favorite part was the intricate wooden dioramas of the city at various points during history starting before 1000 AD. What we didn't realize until... More

This is a really nice museum explaining the history of Luxembourg City. One of the highlights was the wood dioramas of the city throughout its history.

There is no reason for a tourist to come here unless you are desperate to entertain children on a rainy day. The museum appears to have been designed as a teaching tool for visiting school classes. I hope the teachers find it useful, despite the fact that the history section presents a boring bowdlerized and mythologized version of local history.... More

Lots to see here and most of it interesting, tracing the history of Luxembourg. You probably need a few hours if not a half day to really take it in as it's on 5 levels all of which bar one are pretty big, but if you have the time it holds the attention well.

Nearly all visitors to Luxembourg City spend time on or in some of the remaining fortifications that surround the city center. Having now spent a few weeks walking past, over, and under these features, it was surprising that I had trouble knowing how these things held together--it often seemed like fortifications pointed the wrong way or were doubled up. The... More

The museum is well-organized with good visual aids to understand the history of Luxembourg over time.

The "Night of museums" offers free access to all museums in LX, one of the best with nice panoramik elevator was this one. Not disappointed at all, icl. temporary expos (signs in the communications, signs in the landscape). Nice historical overview to the history of Le Grand Duche.
