Schueberfouer is a multi-week folk festival that takes place annually at the end of August/beginning of September on Glacis Square. The large fair has numerous rides and many opportunities for food and drink. Evening, the fair offers a spectacular light spectacle. We had a lot of fun.

This is the one reason to make the trip from wherever you are in the world to Luxembourg. Winter is just one long wait until the Schubi in September. Follow the trail of people as they make their way to Glacis from all over the country and the world. You’ll be welcomed by a grand entrance that could fool you for Tomorrowland. But this is so much better than any festival you have ever been. Start your journey at Jean La Gaufre and indulge in these world-renowned waffles and crepes. If your stomach can take it, get on any of the rides. From the rollercoasters to the smaller rides, you’re sure to find something fun. Get in the Ferris wheel and observe the magnificent Kirchberg in the horizon. Or compete with the locals to see how can stay longest in a pull-up. After gathering some energy with a gromperekichelcher or your favorite sausage, don’t leave before taking the back alley. One short street of wonders that will make Diagon Alley look like your average Walmart. Open your ears and let the sellers take you on an adventure as you learn how to peel potatoes, cut carrots or store your avocados. You won’t leave empty handed or empty hearted.

The Schueberfouer, a part of Luxembourgs culture. This annual funfair, at the end of august to early september, already exists since the medieval time.
This is the place to have fun, to go on thrill rides and to party. It always has a selection of obout 5 large thrill rides, many games, kiddy rides, 1-3 roller coasters and places to eat, that transform into party spots at night. You have to visit the Schueberfouer at night with all the lights, but beware it can get crowded and then they run the rides shorter. The prices might be high but far not as expensive as Oktoberfest in Munich.
On the last day its half the price with fireworks at the end.
Its a very cool place for young and adult people (lots of drinking at night). It might be not so fun for little kids, they might get intimidated by the many people and loud music.
The Glacis, where the funfair is located, is easily accessible if you come by train/tram

It would not be fun if every day was Schueberfouer, that is for sure. But the few weeks that the show is put on every year - it is actually quite fun. For one evening.
A huge parking lot in the center of Luxemburg is transformed into a gigantic funfair with rides, food, drinks and people you don't really see during your average day. Take it for what it is and go there and enjoy an evening of people watching with some junk food and plenty of drinks. Then go home and wait for it to come back next year - it will be the same then.

I was shocked that the most important event in Luxembourg (after the Duke or National Day) wasn't listed. Did you know that in 2019 we're celebrating its 679th edition? Yup, it has been going on for longer than some sequoias :)
You have many different types of food stands and restaurants proper, mechanic rides, a huge rollercoaster, and sweets to give you a sugar shock. There's music, competition games to earn a plush toy, and in the night we can say it's the largest pub in the whole city.

The Schueberfeuer is the biggest event of the year in Luxembourg: many rides and entertainment venues are condensed into a rather small space, even if everything is organized fairly well. The festival is held every year between late August and early September.
