The castle's location is great, on top of a rock with mountains all around it to admire it. But then you enter it: everywhere you see glass doors, staircases in different styles, wiring that you see running through walls and tiles from a 1980s spa. The chapel is appalling with new plaster all around. If you want to see castles... More

I recommend you combine the visit with a trip on the chairlift. At the top of the chairlift is a great view of the castle. You will then need to take an approximate half mile walk down via a track through a wood. This requires a reasonable level of fitness. It's hard to imagine that until relatively recently (1970s) the... More

This little jewel in the middle of nowhere is beautiful. People are very friendly and willing to help. Although the town is quite small, the castle makes it worth seeing.

With displays of armor and weaponry over the centuries and rich tapestries, you very much get the vibe of the history of the place. A weapon demonstration by folk in historical dress was very entertaining and included firing of an arquebus and a musket rifle (very loud).

I would definitely get the audio guide if you are English speaking as I don't remember any of the wiring being in English - at 2 euros for the guide, 6 euros entrance for adults and 5 euros for pensioners I thought it was great value. We had coffee and cake in the coffee shop too which was lovely. we... More

Very nice place to visit in Vianden. 6 euro entrance which is fine. Whem we were there the knights of the castle did a demonstration with weapons inclusing shooting some black powder. Really cool! Too bad that the best views from the castle are not allowed to go..

Nicely renovated chateau with clear routing to explore the place. We were there on Thursday early afternoon, not crowded at all. Recommended for families.

We took the 2-seated chairlift up and had a lovely 10 minute walk down to the castle (wouldnt recommend doing this in the rain as this will be a slippery road through the woods) Castle is renovated and brought back to its original state, however renovations are still ongoing. View from the castle is amazing and the castle itself is... More

This castle has been pretty much completely restored in recent years, which makes it seem a little less intriguing. But the views of Vianden are worth the modest entrance price alone (4-5 Euro if I remember correctly). Also beware most of the signage isn't in English (mainly French and German I think) so I didn't understand much. Id recommend getting... More

n general, Luxembourg appears to be a completely underestimated tourist attraction and that includes the castle of Vianden. The locals did a marvelous job in reconstructing this history jewel! Enjoy taking in all the views from the nice little town up to the castle and then down from the castle’s various view points – it’s the perfect landscape for a... More
