After seeing some of the larger of the Faroe Islands the day before on another “Guide to Faroe Islands” tour, I spent the day exploring the six northern Faroe Islands with Eydun Húsgard. As I was the only person on the tour, Eydun was in contact beforehand to customise the itinerary so I could get the most out of it, and suggested a hike to the Kallur lighthouse on the ruggedly beautiful Island of Kalsoy. Suffice to say I very quickly agreed! The journey to Kalsoy was memorable in itself - Eydun is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, and relayed stories and information about the Islands while we passed through countless valleys criss-crossed by waterfalls on the way to the ferry from Klaksvík. Then, when we arrived at Trøllanes for the start of the hike, we met the farmer on whose land the lighthouse stood, the charming Johannes, who joined us for the hike. Johannes shared stories of farming on the Faroe Islands, how the Faroese sheep came to be there, and living in a place where the sun doesn’t rise above the mountain ridge for six months of the year. When we reached the lighthouse, nothing could prepare me for the scene that awaited me: dramatic cliffs dropping hundreds of metres to the sea below, circled by countless sea birds, and with a spectacular string of rugged island peaks as a backdrop. Wow! It’s easy to understand why this location was selected to feature in the latest James Bond film!! We continued our tour of the other islands after lunch, where the constantly changing weather conditions creating beautiful vistas and endless photo-worthy moments. Each Island has its own character and the Northern Islands as a whole are jaw-dropping my spectacular. I would recommend Eydun, and the Northern Faroe Islands tour, as an absolutely unmissable excursion during your trip to this most beautiful part of the world!

On a bit windy, wet and cloudy day, our guide Petra made us feel included and welcome. With only one other guest in the group we had a lovely and cozy day with Petra.

We booked this tour for our family and it was great! We were met at the ferry by a rep to give us our lunches. ( which were delicious and they even had a gluten free, vegan option!) we then took the ferry to the island and met our guide. It was a great day spent learning about puffins and talking to a local, our guide lives on the island all summer. Our girls did great on the hike, the trail is muddy and steep and not good if you don’t like heights. Very good and highly recommend!

We were very excited when we booked the Golden Circle tour from Torshavn Harbor through MM Tours. We had friends who had taken the tour and loved it. Also the reviews were excellent. Unfortunately, we had to cancel due to Covid 19 when our cruise was cancelled. Mikkjal was very prompt in refunding our tour cost, and we can't wait to re-book when we are again able to cruise Iceland.
