Chef Karl is a special person and I am really glad I met with him. He is not just a great chef but creative and a unique man who is inteligent and funny too in the same time. He cooks the most delicious food I ever tried in Malta. I also worked with him a few times and he was always ready in time, kept clean the cooking area and communicative with clients. I highly reccommend him as a Chef and good person.

We had 2 choices for our experience in Malta, and we are happy to have gone with KARLITOSWAY. When we met Karl after discussing Malta by email, it was so friendly and wanted to make sure that he met all our special interests, including architecture, food and cultural highlights of Malta. Karl is a special person who has hospitality as his backbone, service and attention to the detail of everything.
I highly recommend this service to any one who wants to experience Malta from a local.

Karl is an amazing guide who practically became a friend within the first hour of the tour. His passion for Malta is evident and he is fun, relaxed and was happy to tailor make our tour to what we wanted, taking us to places off the beaten track. A wonderful Maltese lunch with wine, snacks and drinks throughout, completed one of the best experiences ever. Don't miss this!

We are a family of 4 from the US. Our kids are 8 and 12 years old. Our tour in Malta with Karl was quite simply, the best tour of anything we've ever had... Karl is just an absolutely incredible tour guide and in just one short day, our whole family fell in love with Malta.
We arrived on a cruise ship so our time was limited. Karl was waiting at the terminal to meet us, and we were off and running right away. Karl's car was parked close by, and in the back he had a cooler full of waters, soft drinks, even beer, and also a treasure chest full of candies and snacks for the kids. What a great first impression!
We spent our day seeing almost the entire island. We saw all the highpoints... Mdina, popeye village, blue grotto, the fishing village, and all the cities and landscapes in between, but what really made this tour amazing was Karl. Karl is a chef, an artist, an interior designer, and just an all around interesting man to spend a day with. Conversation was easy and we found him to be wonderful with our kids, funny, passionate about his home, and full of good stories.
A highlight of the day (there were many) was the incredible local meal Karl planned for us. Dish after dish of authentic Maltese cuisine just kept coming (the rabbit was amazing, as was the pork... and the beef... and the veggies... and the bread!).
Karl bought us strawberries grown locally from a little market... sweetest we have ever tasted. We visited some far out vistas and cliffs overlooking neighboring islands and the cities. Karl always allowed us to move at our own pace and to stop for photos anytime we wanted.
Seriously, this was a magical day, and for LESS than the cost of a boring, cruise ship excursion, and it was private just for our family. If you are considering a tour in Malta, Karl is your man.
thanks again!

My husband and I stopped in Valletta, Malta while on a cruise. I debated taking a tour as the island is small and figured that we could see whatever we wanted on our own without too much fuss. Boy, am I glad I decided to take this tour! Karlito owns this company and his sister Theresa works with him. They are both lovely people with so much warmth and excitement. Theresa was our guide for the day and she did a GREAT job. She was born and raised in Malta so she is obviously very knowledgeable about the culture and history or this tiny country. We saw so much of Malta and got an understanding of Malta that we could never have done on our own or with a shore excursion offered by the cruise company. Lunch at a truly authentic restaurant was included and sweet Theresa even gave us a bottle of wine produced in Malta to take home. Don't think twice-- take this tour!!!

Our review must begin with tale of 'The Three Chairs'. In a small, tree covered fishing cove on the island of Gozo, partly hidden by overgrown weeds, sits an abandoned shack. Once upon a time, this nondescript edifice hosted a famous restaurant with a reputation for serving some of the best locally sourced fish for miles. One day, the proprietors, a middle aged couple, were approached by a film crew that needed exclusive access to the area for an upcoming Hollywood movie. To secure the area and pay for the inconvenience, the film crew offered to pay them a substantial sum of money. After initially accepting the offer, the couple got greedy, rejected it and demanded a massive increase. Despite multiple negotiation attempts, the couple refused to budge. At that point, the government stepped in and investigated their tax returns. Investigations revealed they had been running the place without declaring their actual income. To avoid legal costs and possible jail time, the couple had to settle for an offer that was much lower than the sum initially offered by the film crew. Unfortunately, they also had to shut down the restaurant. As you drive down the steep slope into the cove from the access road, you immediately sight three brightly coloured, solitary chairs forlornly facing the bay and looking out to the bay as if awaiting the return of a loved one out at sea. Now they are all that remains of the once thriving business.
It is out-of-the-way, unique stories like the above which characterised our amazing tour experience with Karl. A highly trained chef, he spent almost 20 years travelling the world and catering in some iconic cities before recently moving back to Malta. His love for his homeland led him to begin offering customisable private tours. His world experience and adventurous spirit are like spices added to the already tasty dish that is Malta. His knowledge of Malta encompasses local geography, history, nature, culture, food, language, people and some very interesting places which you may never experience on a standard tour. His knowledge of the road network is quite extensive and his ability to navigate some of the lesser known routes is impressive. Driving along quiet and scenic country roads, don't be surprised if Karl suddenly spots some rare local flowers, stops the car and then tells you the story of how these delicate and aromatic plants almost became extinct.
We chose to visit Malta (and the island of Gozo) during the winter off-peak travel season. Although off-peak winter travel to Malta has its benefits, one downside is the unpredictability of the weather. Part of our Gozo tour included a private culinary experience, with Karl cooking lunch outdoors at the scenic Ramla Bay. However, with the rain lashing down every few minutes and the sun playing hide and seek with the clouds, we were doubtful whether we would be able to complete this part of the tour. Our next stop was Calypso's Cave. As we made our way back to the car, Karl struck up a chat with a nice old lady who sells hand-knitted wool cardigans right next to the viewing point. The old lady (Chesina) had an unused shed right next to her little shop. Karl, being the quick thinker that he is, politely asked if we could use the shed to cook and she agreed. Soon, the wonderful aromas of seasoned cuttlefish, pan fried giant king prawns, red quinoa, fresh salad and flavoured basmati rice filled the air. This was a highlight of the day for us...as well as meeting the lovely Chesina who has lived and worked in Gozo for over 40 years.
Karl is a great guy with a fine sense of humour. As well as being an excellent tour guide, he also loves the famous HBO series, Breaking Bad; a show which always generates interesting conversation. We had only three days in Malta and we wanted to pack as much into the trip as possible. Karl’s tour provided the opportunity to do just that. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary and away from the well beaten tourist trails, give him a ring. You won't regret it.

As others have mentioned this is simply the best was to see Malta! My husband has Maltese heritage and so we were keen to get a feel of his heritage through the eyes of a local. Our day with Karl was absolutely amazing, he picked us up and it immediately felt like we were being shown around by an old friend. We had a chat about what we wanted to see most, and then left the itinerary in Karl's capable hands. Our day included photo stops, drives along magnificent coastlines, walks along the seaside and through historical villages and a delicious selection of local foods. The highlight for us was an impromture stop in a village which was preparing for their annual fiesta. This also happened to be the village where my husbands relatives are from and so Karl walked us through, helped us chat with the locals and encouraged us to return later to see their fireworks.
Overall it has been a fantastic day and well worth every penny!

How nice it is to visit place - how much nicer it is when you experience the best of - in my case Malta....with Karl from K private tours!
His food his knowledge his humour is the icing on the cake to a great day; our day was an unexpected surprise; as Malta is a lovely place but lacks originality. Karl made sure he is original in every way possible - every second of the day was a happy moment!
Go to Malta but do a tour with Karl.

This was an excellent tour taking us virtually around the whole island in a long but hugely enjoyable trip. Pickup from our flat in Bugibba included. We were asked for a list of places we wanted included on our day and we did just that and more.Karl was our host and we had fascinating conversations about the local food as we drove around - Karl is a chef as well. We stopped for pictures wherever we asked, had a beach stop for a swim and also a stop at the playmobil park for the kids to go in and have a play. Also a great lunch included. A perfect day at a fair price.

When I book a tour I feel it’s a must to book a tour with local. Not only do they know where the good food is, they know where they are going. Therese was such a sweetheart! Therese took us to eat lunch at a traditional restaurant, which was delicious. We really enjoyed the 360 tour of Malta. Therese is also a photographer and took the stress of us having to take pictures. Therese took pictures of us the entire time and emailed them to us. I highly recommend this tour with Therese :-)
