    Love this place.
Went on the bus to Valletta, checked to make sure there were no cruise ships in port that day as it can get very busy, you do not get chance to look over from the upper gardens down to the battery where the canons go off every day at midday. Beautiful views over an amazing harbour. The gardens are a lovely place to sit and have a drink and a local cheese cake while watching the world go by. You must visit this place if you go to Valletta, If you are not afraid of heights go down the highest lift outside I have ever been on, take in the views from the ground and for just 1 euro you can get the lift back up unless you are energetic and walk up the steps back. You can check whether there are cruise ships in on the day of your visit by going on line and asking ships today in Valletta harbour, it is much nicer to visit when there is no ships in port. Enjoy it.

Great spot to see the island for free.
Great spot to see the beauty of Malta for free. Overlooking the harbor and some of the forts this is a great spot to visit and be impressed from this island. Kids can run around and if you’re lucky the Maltese are actually shooting the cannons.

    Perfect location
Exceptional location with a lot to look at. There is plenty of seating to sit and soak up the magnificent views. The nearby cafe has great coffee and tasty snax...don't forget to have charge in you phone like I did!

    Beautiful gardens with panoramic views
We decided we wanted to visit here after reading reviews and were not disappointed! Such fantastic views of Valetta and further afield. Could have stayed a while just enjoying the views. Gardens very pretty also & Cafe looked good & reasonably priced (though we didn't have time to try it). The fact this is a free attraction is an added bonus!

Aim for midday to see the cannon salute
We climbed the stairs from the waterside (but there is also a lift if needed). Worth the visit for the views alone and walking takes you past the Saluting Battery which is just a a few euros to go inside and see the cannon salute at midday. There is also cafe in the gardens to get a drink and snack at sensible prices.

    Amazing Views
Such amazing views all across Malta from this location. The gardens are beautiful lots of different flowers and trees as well as a cafe up here too. The views look out right across the water. You can also get the Barrakka Lift from here.

    Cannon guided tour
Strongly recommend to get tickets of 3 euros pp to join their guided tour after the firing cannon. Our tour guide Levi was very friendly and his introduction of Malta history and the cannons were very interesting and interactive. We enjoyed the tour and the place very much.

    Magnificent views over Vallettas harbour
After a zig zag climb through old Valletta we reached this tranquil spot. The gardens themselves are not fantastic but offer lots of shade and the setting is spectacular. From the terraces outside the arched you gave the most amazing 180+ degrees view of the harbour. Well worth it. You also have a birds eye view of the Saluting Battery below; the cannons fire at noon and 4pm Monday to Saturday. There’s a cafe there but where the chairs and tables are is fairly covered with bird droppings. From there you can take a lift down to the harbour to catch a ferry or simply wander.

    Great views
Absolutely beautiful location overlooking the harbour and three cities with the battery Salute directly underneath. Great location to watch the noon and 4pm cannon salute and to watch the boats go by. Lovely garden with statues and memorial plaques. Many photo opportunities.

By English standards this is a small park, planted up flower beds and a few trees overlooking the harbour, but it's pleasant enough. The main reason for our visit was to see the firing of the four o clock cannon. This is re-enacted by the historical society with all the ceremony of yester year as a fundraising spectacle. It's very popular so arrive early and take your place on the terrace overlooking the Saluting battery or pay 3 euros and go down to the battery itself. If you watch from the top be sure to put something in the collecting tin on the way out!

We visited here on day 2 and 4 of our week in Malta and enjoyed our visit both times even though the weather was really wet and windy on the first visit. The worst for 10 years we were told.

Beautifully laid out gardens with monuments and fountains.

Toilets are available here.

Great views out over the grand harbour and the canons. ( if you would like to see the Canon fired at noon or 4.00pm it is worth paying the small fee to go down the steps and see it up close and personal, as this includes a short talk afterwards and there are information boards taking you through each historical time period.

We liked to find a shady bench with a good view of the Grand Harbour outside the crowded times. Or ignore the view and sit by the fountain instead admiring the geraniums and spotting the occasional lizard basking in the sun. Open a sandwich bag and every pigeon in town is your friend but there were no seagulls.

We used the lift 1 Euro each return to take a one man water taxi across to Birgu; 2 Euros each way landing by the maritime museum ( closed ).
(They rock alarmingly if you are top heavy and not too nimble boarding.)
Then a stroll along Birgu marina waterfront to the fort followed by a cold drink under the parasols of the Chill bar watching the activity on the moored boats.

We often miss gardens like this one because we walk from one cafe to the next and seldom just soak up the sights in one place at a time. This is the ideal place for a picnic, chat and a proper "chill - ax". Beautiful views and a chance to rest those feet !

Built above the St. Peter and Paul bastion on the highest point of Valletta , the Upper Barrakka Gardens were originally the "recreation" areas for the knights of the Italian langue.
After the end of French domination in 1800 the gardens were open for the public and they are till today.
Nowadays all the tourists who visit Valletta have on their "to do/to see" list a stop at the Upper Barrakka Gardens - the views from its balcony , overlooking the Grand Harbor are just beautiful so it is understandable the crowds you see here.
Entrance to the Gardens is free of charge and trough the lift reconstructed in 2012 - you can easily and fast get up or down to the harbor level ...
In the garden you can see memorial plaques, memorials and statues scattered everywhere and there is a kiosk where you can sit and enjoy some cold (or warm) beverages.
It's balcony looking towards the Grand Harbor is also looking over the Saluting Battery - from there you can watch free of charge the gun firing at 12:00 or 16:00 ... although I recommend you pay those few euros and see the battery from closer.
Overall a very nice place to be checked out and ... a Landmark of Valletta.

This wonderful garden is a tranquil place to visit at any time of day, with bucolic greenery and a sense of calm away from the city's bustle. There are gun salutes at noon and at 4pm which are well worth a visit, but even if you miss them, you still get a beautiful view of the harbour. The cafe's beverages were very good.

Upper Barrakka in Valletta is a must place to visit whilst in Malta. It can boast of the most magnificent views of the Grand Harbour. Be sure to be there just a few minutes before noon to experience the re-enactment that takes place there every day. The garden also has a kiosk where one can have snacks and tea and coffee. Public toilets are also available in this place. A Must!!

This garden is open to the public built in 1661 by the Italian league of knights to offer them refuge from the city. The garden offers the best view of the three cities and the Grand harbor. The garden is located in the city of Valetta, t tv he capital of Malta.

As we walked from the elevator toward the gardens, the panorama looking down from the courtyard to the canons on the level below and then down to the harbor was magnificent. From there we stepped through the arches and into a beautiful Versailles-like garden with carefully manicured flower beds of all colors, a lovely fountain, and statues of Churchill and other revered war heroes. It was a lovely, shady place to sit and enjoy the views.
