This little Anglican Church sits on a street about four very steep blocks up behind the waterfront at Sliema.
The church itself was locked on a Saturday afternoon which was the only day we had available to go and see it. Armed with a photo of his parents outside the church after their wedding, hubby and I asked an obliging stranger to take a photo of us in the same spot.
The gate was open, thank heavens! and though it would have been lovely to see inside it was a very good nostalgia trip. On thruway back down we stopped in a little swuste, home to one of Malts’s most prevalent objects- an enormous crane- and bought a Magnum from a little shop and sat and relaxed absorbing the area’s ambience, made up of the ubiquity”construction “ between old houses unchanged for hundred years.

Holy Trinity Church

The design of this church is unusual in Malta. It was built for the English community in XIX century and reflects the shape of a village church anywhere in the UK. The building has a high gable roof and a simple two-step shape. On the side walls are placed high pointed windows with strongly colored medallions. A delicate tracery on the presbytery cover emphasises the sanctity of the place.

Simple, quiet church

The church was locked when we arrived but a lady from the bookshop next door opened it for us. After the ornate Catholic churches we had visited it was calm and simple.

I love going into the old churches and this one is no exception One can grasp a lot of the Islands history just by visiting churches. I don`t want to say too much and spoil your visit but for anyone interested in history then this is a great starting point.

One of the jewels to be seen when in Sliema and Malta. Simple and elegant church may be one of the points of interest in anyone's sightseeing program for Malta.
