We revisited this attraction to show our friends bit of a Malta history as we remembered that last time it was great experience with kids.

This time it was bit disorganised.
They asked us to wait 10 minutes to start the show but it didn’t start for another 25 minutes.

3d glasses that we have been given didn’t really work during the show.
Content of a movie was very educational but very blurry.
Its not as it was last time when we visited 3 years ago precovid.

When movie finished we were left in darkness for aprox 10 minutes waiting for someone to let us through to main attraction.
And only after few minutes of knocking and getting attention of another tourist staff member showed up and let us through.

Some of the audio stations didnt picked up by sensors so we were missing audio content of displays.

Displays very nicely showed history of Knights.

They did kindly offer us to go again to listen missed stations but it was too much to do it again with 4 kids.

Lady selling tickets when we asked for a group ticked (4 adults and 4 kids)offered us price of €58 for Knights of Malta and Malta experience but when I was about to pay price went to €70.

In overall if you haven’t seen it and you like history you can try and you will learn something about this amazing place.

Still smarting from paying €10 to enter St John’s Cathedral in Valletta (only to be told to be silent as it was a place of worship!) the €6.50 entry was well worth it.
Very friendly welcome and a great history lesson - very entertaining to boot.
Most amused that the audio history cut off at Napoleon capturing the islands in 1798.....no mention of the subsequent 164 years under British rule that followed! Brexit.....surely not, after all it is only January 31, 2020! LOL

The audio visual experience is dated.
Needs to updated by utilising modern technology although informative.

Not worth the 35 mins it takes or the E6.50 entry. A short 3D film (cardboard 3D glasses provided) followed by a walkthrough series of tableaux scenes with audio description. All very amateurish, audio description didn't work half the time, very light on any real historical detail and not 'fun' for kids either.

However, the square that one of the Knights of Malta venues is in, Pjazza Mesquite is a gorgeous hidden oasis - have a couple of beers and a Maltese Sharing Platter for 2 (E16) from Don Mesquite restaurant instead of going to see Knights of Malta.

The two guys running it didn't seem to know what they were doing. They were speaking in their own language (not English, not Maltese) discussing what to do with us before saying "do the tour first".

Turns out we were supposed to watch a video first to give us an overview of everything and give more context to the story. But apparently they didn't think to ask us "do you mind waiting 5 minutes for the next showing of the video". Instead we started the tour 4 or 5 stops in with the guy errily standing over us and then pointing us in each direction. Was distracting.

He eventually left us and we went through the next 20 scenes ok. Audio guide mostly worked. But he didn't tell is they were infra red and so had to be hand held the entire time. So when I put it in my pocket and moved between scenes it stoped working completely. Eventually figured out how to use it myself. But missed a few scenes of audio.

Also, let's say 20% of the tour / scenes aren't finished yet. With workmen actively still working on it whilst guests are touring round. Which wasn't great, but I guess not the end of the world.

We got back to the start and finally had a chance to watch the video... Which again had already started. They said "go in we will restart it". They didn't restart it. And then at the end asked if we wanted to watch the whole thing again. I'd had enough by then.

Better trained guides! Literally all the problems caused by those guys.

If they trained them better or got in better staff then I would have given it a 4/5. As it was, almost complete waste of time / money.

... No refund was offered despite me saying it was out of order how they showed us through it.

Would recommend going in a year, once they have finished it and have better trained staff.

Really interested in the content of this film/museum, but too many little things happened to make this less than enjoyable. Film content was Ok or maybe a little better than OK.
We got our headset and device and 3D glasses. Instructions not to touch any of the buttons, just hang the device around your neck.
Film viewing was OK, if you can tolerate the staff walking in/out of the theater multiple times, leaving the door open (thus letting light into the darkened theater), or walking through the theater between viewers and screen with bright flashlights.
Walking through the displays was even less successful. First they take your 3D glasses from you. Then audio from the headsets describe exhibits and then instruct you to move to the next exhibit display. Sometimes it's not clear which is the next exhibit. And audio problems don't help. Sometimes you think you should be at an exhibit, but you have no audio. Staff came through because the group of five of us were obviously having issues. We missed audio on probably a third of the exhibits. One man had his device replaced. And the instructions became 'you should hold your device up like this'
Not worth the money spent. Do not recommend.

Deep in the fabulous old city’s bastion stone walls of Mdina you will find Casa Magazzini. Here you can see a short 3D film followed by a very realistic and fascinating walk through experiences viewing life like scenes on the history of the Knights of Malta. You are issued with a headset in the choice of many languages.
When we visited, a number of the tableaux were being refurbished and upgraded in preparation for the oncoming Summer season.
If you want to know more about Malta’s history this is a definite must see.

Cheap ticket, offering a small 3d movie and the show with the models giving a perfect view of the history of Malta. Easy to use audio guide. Nice atmosphere at the rooms

You can actually tell it's going to be bad at the start. But you made the mistake of thinking it's a museum and you said yes while you weren't really aware of how bad it actually is. So you just go with it. Don't. Run. Even if you already paid. It's a bad 3D movie with 80's glasses and an even worse puppet show with very bad receivers for the audio. And to all of it works. So when reading this while already committed, don't feel bad for the guy, don't stay cause you paid. Go get a beer or jump of the citadel wall. Both are better than this.

Oh dear. Having already really enjoyed the War Museum and the Malta Experience during our stay in Valletta, we thought we’d indulge in a bit more Knight history whilst in Mdina. What a disappointment. The whole set up would have been out of date 30 years ago but in this hi-tech age, it just doesn’t cut it. Really dodgy 3D film followed by a tedious trek around a series of dull tableaux, the commentary for which was either out of sync with what we were looking at or, as in our case, didn’t work at all after the first five minutes. This attraction really does need dragging into the 21st Century if it is to survive. Until then, one best avoided I’m afraid.
