Worth a visit but be prepared for how busy it is!
If staying locally then a visit to the market is a must! It is quite busy, but interesting to see the selling of fresh fish and other food. There are also souvenir stalls which aren't anything special. Lovely to just see the locals going about their business! Lots of restaurants around for coffee or breakfast.

    Market worth a visit.
We visited the Marsaxlokk market on Sunday morning to visit the fish market. We took a taxi from Valletta early at 6.30 in the morning to catch the market early before the tourists arrived. It is a large market seeking fish but also fruit and vegetables. We took the bus back to Valletta at 8.30 and when we got back to the Valletta bus station there was a long queue at the bus stop for Marsaxlokk. You can take boat tours from Marsaxlokk but we did not.

Big market with things for locals and tourists alike
The market is very big and becomes increasingly busy as the day progress. Come early if you want to minimize the number of times you'll be caught in the crowd waiting on someone else to finish their purchases. People are however very nice and wait patiently in general. Many of the stands seem to be present in Bormla on Tuesdays as well, but there is a bit more space to move around on the Bormla market. For locals the market offers an opportunity to do some good weekly grocery shopping with some of the stands offering seafood, vegetables, fruits and other things cheaper than what is otherwise possible to acquire. For tourists the market offer a good opportunity to see the charming Marsaxlokk bay, experience a market day and perhaps pick up some souvenirs.

It was okay, touristy (busy) and most items expensive.
So we did our seafood experience by the blue grotto and so glad we did as prices were much better there. I’m sure the seafood here is great but this is for sure a touristy area. Lots of people there and the busses were full and hard to get o. When leaving. Also DO NOT buy the cannolis. One stand in the front charges 5 euros for 100g the other further down charges 2.50 for 50g. We saw them on the first stand and we were going to get three, two cannolis and one Maltese macaroon the total was 25 euros. When he told me the total I told him I’ll take one. So one “okay” cannoli was 8 euros. Also the nougat here was 3.50 over at the GOT gate ( can’t remember the name) they were 1.25z. At the gate I got the prickly pear liquor larger bottle for 5.50 here at the market it was same price for the smaller bottle. I liked the bay with the boats but in all honestly we could have visited somewhere better. Especially when you have to wait for 30 minutes or so for a bus. The busses it Malta are hit or miss. Sometimes it works as it should others you wait and wait and the time just changes on the app. Also beware of the app it charges an extra 5 on mine and 20 randomly on my wife’s.

I loved the market - but was a bit disappointed that there weren't more local crafts to buy. Most of it on the right hand side was a flea market. However, if you turn left as you enter, you do eventually find some great arts and crafts to take home.

How many tourists did we let themselves be fooled. I paid 15 euros for two "canolli"! These sweets are fake Italian cannoli and taste like pure sugar. Lesson learned for me next time to avoid stands without prices!!! This is pure scam!!!!!

A shame most traders are there to con you.
Bought 600g bags of sea salt and weighed them at home and quite surprised they were only just over 300g.

It's a very lovely and traditional experience per se, but stay away from the sweets section. They are anything but traditional, super sweet (my teeth still hurt) and a total rip off. I have just paid €20 for five 'cannoli'. You can get proper cannoli at a restaurant (while sitting and down and served) for way less.

Got ripped off at the Traditional Maltese sweets stand.
No prices on display so charged me €5 for one canolli with plain vanilla cream. I can get better ones elsewhere with fresh ricotta for €1.50.
My daughter asked for one so couldn't refuse so had to pay the price. Disgusting that they rip of tourists.
AVOID AVOID AVOID not even fresh.
