About
It is an audio-visual,fine arts and historical museum that tells a story. It is unique in the Maltese islands in that its construction, including a medieval wing, was conceived and designed as a modern multi-mediatic museum that includes audio-visual halls and interactive points on every floor. Basically this museum and cultural centre, displays a rich collection of historical and artistic artifacts.

Visiting Gozo on a day trip we came across this small Museum close to bustling St George’s Church. A quiet oasis laid out on several floors, there is a lift. An exhibition by a local artist was on display. Many interesting objects and paintings with a modern layout. There is a terrace cafe on the top floor. Very friendly reception. It is free but donations welcome to keep the place going.

Visited Il-Ħaġar Museum and were very impressed by this hidden gem of a museum in the heart of Victoria, Gozo. Floor upon floor of rich antique ecclesiastical exhibits owned by the Parish Church of St. George from across the street, and collected in this old building restored to a high finish. We also enjoyed a temporary art exhibition by the Maltese artist, Willie Apap. Entrance is free and floors are accessible by steps and a lift. Well Done to all involved.

Visited this delightful little museum early September. It is situated just off the busy St Georges square in the old part of Victoria and can be easily missed if you are not careful, but please , take time to seek out this little gem of Gozo history. The museum has been beautifully renovated and the mix of ancient meets modern has been sympathetically considered. Beautiful paintings sit along side historic artefacts , something of interest for everyone. Areas of seating and informative video add to the experience. The museum is obviously close to the heart of the several volunteers who donate their time to help run it. It is truly a credit to all concerned.

A religious pageant with no historical overall content nor insight into medieval nor renaissance life beyond the church.

We stumbled upon this site, and decided to go in. Besides the permanent exhibition (religious artifacts), there was a fantastic temporary exhibition of an Italian photographer. Very interesting. Free admission.

We entered this museum as it was just next to St George's Basilica and it was free. To be honest, we were not interested in the religious history of Gozo, so, this small and modest museum did not appeal to us at all. However, it was neatly organized, with sufficient written explanations on the displays, successful blend of the old and the new. So, I can recommend it only if it covers your areas of interest, otherwise, it will take almost 15 to 20 minutes to go in and out.

After a fantastic early afternoon walk along the medieval streets of Rabat, Victoria, surrounding the magnificent basilica of "San Gorg", in stifling heat, it was brilliant to enter into the shady and cool interior of the Il-Hagar Museum. My friend and I were astonished to discover a museum like no
other that we had visited in the Maltese islands. It is really a church museum, but the setting is so original, modern, unstuffy, attractive! Only one of the multiple audio rooms was functioning but we were assured that the work in progress will be terminated soon. An astonishing addition to the island's attractiveness! Congratulations to the people who set it up.

A newly opened museum in the heart of Gozo, in the centre of Victoria, the capital city. Located adjacent to The Golden Basilica, St George’s Basilica (another magnificent attraction), the €1.2 million project called IL-ĦAĠAR – Heart of Gozo is the very first edifice on the islands built purposely as a museum and its innovation lies in the fact that this museum narrates the history of Gozo’s community within a religious context. It was designed by Bright White Ltd from the UK, specialists in the design and building of specially themed historical museums.
I visited this museum several times because exhibits change from time to time since these are exposed in the Basilica. The museum exposes work of arts, statues that used to be taken in past processions. From time to time, exhibitions are organized in the halls of the museum. One feature that impressed me is the huge towering sculpture that runs through all the three storeys and represents the successive communities on the island as the building blocks of the Gozitan community.
I recommend that this visit is combined with the Golden Basilca of Saint George which is another museum of art, sculpture and place of worship that goes back to hundreds of years ago. The museum is opened from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00.

the museum is interesting, but mainly focuses on regligious artifacts.

We joined an event, having lunch and music on the roof, which was lovely.
