Early birds can get the best vantage space and good access. You have to get here early to leave others green with jealousy around these jagged cliffs.

Amazing place, definitely worth visiting even if you're not a fan of rocky "beaches". There are two super tiny (I mean reeeally tiny, like 12-20 meters, generously speaking) beaches with some actual sand but there's no space to actually put a towel somewhere and, as you can imagine, they can't exactly fit in many people. There's another small sandy beach which you can reach by boat for 5 EUR. But even if you forego the beaches, the island and its coasts are amazingly beautiful, with picturesque cliffs, bays, sea caves and rock formations. You can just take a hike along the shore and admire the surroundings. Be prepared to climb some rocks. I wouldn't say that it's physically taxing, even for someone with a questionable level of fitness like myself. Just wear comfortable footwear, it's a very rocky place. Great views with none of the crowds because of covid.

The colour of the water is amazing but the loud pumping music and crowds of people made it impossible to enjoy. The crowding was especially worrying due to COVID as it was impossible to stay away from people. I swam in the water for about ten minutes before I felt I had to get out and then sat on the crowded tiny beach waiting until it was time to take the boat back to Gozo. It's not something I would recommend. Maybe if you could visit off-season it would be nice.

We took a boat from "Joyride Watersports Gozo" (reviewed in another post) When we arrived at Blue Lagoon i was amazed how busy it was. Private and commercially owned boats moored up safely. What seemed like hundreds of people on the island of Comino. You are greeted with various vans selling drinks, ice cream, pizzas etc. There is also 1 van that has lockers for rent to store your belongings. You need a good comfy towel to sit on the rocks with, as there are minimum spaces to sit on the small beach. The rocks are sharp, but there are a few well worn paths towards the lagoon proper. Its clean and blue, sandy floor with life guards on duty. It was like looking at a human equivalent of a rock hopper penguin colony! Bodies everywhere, and people bouncing around up and down the cliff face to get to and from the lagoon. What also shocked me is the litter about on this nature reserve. The majority of people we saw were millennials, and these guys are meant to be the drivers of this ecological sentiment going round. However, these people either were not interested, or not interested as it was not in their own back yard. There are bins about, lots were full of pineaples used for drinks, and the only nature i saw were wasps! The bin were emptied, but some people just used the rocks as a dumping ground for cans, bottles and general litter. There is next to no shade by the lagoon, or the island itself. The Maltese have it about right, they visit Comino in the winter when its cooler

After reading all the negative reviews I was apprehensive about taking the boat trip, how wrong was I! Yes it is busy but the sea is still clear blue, the sun chairs/umbrellas are no more expensive than anywhere else in the Mediterranean, my only recommendation would be go early to try and get a chair, if you can handle the sun all day without shade then just go!
