Easily DIY hiking
The hike to Koruldi Lakes is one of the favourite and is easy to DIY. From the main square just follow the red and white sign it takes around 4 hours up depending on the weather and your fitness. It is more than moderate difficulty. The first part up to the cross is the most difficult and steep without many views. Only at the beginning you have a nice view of the Mestia with the towers and then close to the cross and viewpoint at Tshakazagari mountains. Not far away is a hut with refreshments which we used on the way down from the lakes hidden from the afternoon rain. Another hut to have a drink is another 15 min up and it is the last one. The second part is a little bit easer but still some sections are steep. The started morning with sun shine but during the hike up it started to be cloudy, which prevented to have clear view of souroundings but it made pictures more mysterious and interesting. Unfortunately, when we reached the lakes we could not see the Mount Ushba in the background.
The way down is quicker around 2,5 hours and you have different options for trails (the same up). Just be attentive for the right ¨turn otherwise you can end up at the airport and then walk to the city center.
To reach the view point at the corss it can also be done by hired jeep / taxi, starting at 100 GEL depending on your negotiation skills.

I literally don't have words to describe about this place. And can't even imagine the location before actually visiting this place.

So it's located at the top most level of the mountain. There are 3 small and cute lakes and 2 of them is of heart shape with different color of the water one blue and another orange .

Imagine lakes in the middle of the mountains and at the top most level . What a beauty !!!!

Cars can be rented from the main city Mestia. For me they took 35 gel per person. And there were 7 people. If there are less people they might charge you more .

We are a group of 18 pax from Yongo tour to Georgia
Our group comprises Malaysians and Singaporeans, with age ranging from 55yr to 72yr
We travelled by 4 4WD vehicles to a 1/2 way point ( near the sign post )and started our hike
It was raining the night before and the walk was windy, very foggy and freezing cold. And it was also raining!😰
The walk was a strenous walk, up hill.
Only glimpses of the snow capped mountains were visible thro the curtains of fog
The lakes were not spectacular as we expected, but the scenary were awesome.

The Koruldi lake trek starts at Mestia, and takes you to the cross on the ridge-top above town, through a sub-alpine plateau and to the three small lakes at the feet of Mount Ushba peak.

While the ascent to the cross is strenuous and barely rewarding in terms of scenery, once you reach the ridge-top you find yourself surrounded by a spectacular view of snow-capped mountain ridges and green valley.

From there, the slope becomes slightly steadier. While up until now there were markers on the trees, from here navigation is done by locating and heading toward poles places in strategic locations. On the way you can expect small summer farmhouses used by the local farmers, and patches of snow. In May, the snow was 60 cm deep at most where we crossed, and we did not need any special equipment beyond our waterproof trekking boots.

The overall length of the trek ranges up to 16 KM, with a 1400 meters vertical difference between lowest and highest point. Well worth the effort.

Final tip: there are two ways to reach the cross, a 4 KM one and a 2 KM one. We ascended via the short one, and it was a very tough climb, almost making us turn around (and how lucky we are that we didn't!). We recommended taking the longer way up and down. If you can somehow hitch a ride up to the cross it's even better.

First of all, I will apologize to all hikers on that trail. It is a challenging hike but we drove it up with our Toyota Prado. It is an amazing road, challenging at times and need a high clearance vehicle with 4Low.
The landscape is unbelievable, from the way and from the top.... highly recommend- the most impressive drive we have done

Had an amazing afternoon driving to the Lake. It took the best part of an hour with a view stops in a 4WD on an exciting and testing dirt road. I hate to recommend driving, as it is a nuisance for the hikers, however we really enjoyed it and were very respectful driving past extremely slowly to avoid spreading as much dust as possible. Truly amazing views on top, i felt like i was climbing Everast over the last few hundred meters we walked to the lake itself lol!

We did the hike from Mestia to the cross and then to the lakes. It took us 2 hours to get to the cross and another 2 to the Koruldi lakes. On our way down we were back in Mestia after a bit more than 2 hours, so this is much faster.
Both parts of the way are really beautiful but also challenging. You will need a lot of water! :) The lakes are really small, so it is more about the hike and the fantastic view than about the lakes.

There are white and orange marked stones which show you the way to the cross and wooden sticks on the way to the lakes, but we used mapsme which was very helpful. Anyway, I think you can't get lost.

A must see if at Mestia.
It is a long climb from Mestia but the scenery is worth it.
Some come with a 4x4 car directly to the small lakes.
I would recommend going there only if the weather is clear sky and sunny.

It is a "must to do" when being in Mestia, but please read! I am just a simple man-with no special physical preparation. And these are my thoughts about this trip (mostly up to cross). You have to go well prepared! Especially with water. We didn't find the stream to fill bottles up the hill. The lack of water was the main reason we didn't made to lakes. Second thing is to consider investing in good hiking boots before trip. It is NOT AN EASY hike (mountains are dangerous and have misleading paths-these take away time and energy). You can make it up the top with any shoes, but it's better to have good ones. Walking sticks are also an advantage, but I made with hazelnut stick found on ground. When You reach the cross, I think, that the hardest part is over. And in beginning of May the last 3 kms of road to lakes was still covered in snow. We didn't made it to lakes because of wrong footwear and lack of water. Also take suntan - sun burns as hell - you just dont feel it. The way down was also hard because of constant slope and fatigue. It took us 2,5 hrs to get up and almost same to get down. Now the bright side - the feeling and view on top of the mountain is priceless, really impressive. And all the hard work pays off.
P.S. I will make to lakes next time, but will go with taxi up to cross (now the road is worse than terrible and no taxi was willing to take us there)
TL;DR: take enough water, prepare for a hard climb and be prepared for stunning view and experience!
