A very beautiful little beach with the typical dark lava sand of the area.
The little geckos seem to be everywhere on the rocks. Please be careful that they don't leave with you...!!!
The food in the little beach bar was delicious and affordable. Clearly recommended.😀
If the descent and ascent don't put you off, you should definitely stop by.

This beach was a hidden gem on this island . There is quite the hike down to reach it but well worth the effort. The beach is actually sandy and not rocky. We were able to rent loungers for 3 Euro. There was a fantastic snack bar where we ate lunch. We had no issues with parking as there were plenty of free spots.

Really nice beach with natural sand (black). We were there on a Monday afternoon - quite busy, but still able to socially distance comfortably. We stopped here on the way from walking at Ponte da Sao Lourenco. Easily accessible, about 10 minutes drive from Machico. Parked on the main road, lots of spaces, and then a walk down the stairs to the beach. Sea warm, small waves. Friendly atmosphere, full services of toilets, showers and restaurant just above beach but we did not use. Not the best beach in the world, but for Madeira it is very nice indeed.

Tuesday 12th of September and we visited the coastal town of Canical. It is situated along the southeastern coast of the Island, between Machico and Ponta de Sao Lourenzo.

Canical is also the principal cargo port of Madeira, which is down the road and visible from the beach.

The statue, Homenagem dos Pescadores da Canical is also nearby.

This is a small stretch of beach consisting of stones and pebbles which are washed by the water's of the Atlantic Ocean.  It sits between a concrete slipway at one end and the wall of a storm drain at the other. A concrete promenade runs along the back of the Beach. There are showers on the beach.

At the time of our visit, there was not a lot happening here. There were a few static umbrellas along the beach with wooden pallets underneath on which a few visitors were lying on. There were cars parked up on the slipway as well as people lying out on the concrete.

Perhaps it was coming towards the end of the tourist season, hence the lack of activity, there was evidence to suggest that structures were being demolished on the beach.

There were a couple of cafes, bars and restaurants along the adjacent streets.

Great natural beach with sand, fantastic colorless, clean and warm sea water.
Protected from the wins by the valley, it worth’s the 300 or more steps you will have to climb back.
Don’t missed, assure you go there middle of the morning on weekday to avoid the weekend and afternoon crowd.
Ideally choose the low tide hours, to maximize your experience, it is a relative small beach. Reserve at least 2 to 3 hours to be there and relax.
There is a small restaurant down there, but did not tried, I took some water and fresh fruit to cope with my stay.

We travelled one hour by bus 113 SAM from Funchal to this quiet cove near Canical. The black sand beach and warm seas made it a perfect spot to spend a sunny day. Beach cafe run by friendly local family served grilled fish and cold beer and wine!!

The beach itself was a rugged rock beach. However the area you would call the prominade was full of local restaurants there were very few visitors o ly locals. The beach had views over a commercial harbour.

I like the beaches of Madeira, and this one has white sand (something rather uncommon in the main island). You can have a really fun time over there, surrounded by short height cliffs.

This beach is just wonderful. Beautiful clear flat water. Soft black sand. Gorgeous picturesque location. Has a toilet, change room and a restaurant.

We were in octomber here so it was not crowded. It is one of our favourites beaches in Madeira. You were there by car. The car must be left in the parking lot and then you need to go down on some stairs untill you reach the beach. It is a natural beach with black sand, not so big. It is good also for snorkeling. We saw some fish but not many. There is also a litlle bar at this beach. They serve also food. The problem was that if you wanted to use the toilet or the shower you needed to buy something drom the bar and ask for the key. But in my opinion you need to see this location!
