Interesting story about history.
Namely, when Turks took over this area, they destroyed Serbian Monastery ''Zagradje'' up the river at Scepan Polje, there was capital of Serbian medieval lord Herceg Stepan Kosaca (after him whole area was named Herzegovina). They took copper roof from Monastery and by wooden raft they transport it to city of Foca and built this Alaja Mosque. Mosque was nicer before Serbs destroyed it in last civil war in Yugoslavia. Now it is renewed and it is nice to visit.

This was one of the oldest and most beautiful mosques in Bosnia, but was completely destroyed two decades ago during Bosnian war. It was then restored and was opened just some months ago. So I was quite lucky to have an opportunity to see it in all its beauty. But unfortunately it was closed during my visit so I could not see the interior.
