This is a small mountain in the Snaefellsnes peninsula which can be driven up to its base easily. There is a local folklore of it being a sacred place with ruins of an old chapel at the top. Travelers can check out the local stories...More

Well worth the stop on a clear day. The views from the top of the hill are beautiful in every direction, across the fjord and inland beyond a charming church to the gorgeous mountains in the distance. A viewing disc at the top makes it...More

Nice place to stop before Stykkisholmur. Dont forget to put some money in the collection box. You stop car and walk to the grave of Guðrún. From there you walk to the top. You have to have good thoughts in your mind . On the...More

An fairly easy 5-10 minute walk sees you at the top of Helgafell which on a clear day has stunning views for miles. Steeped in history it's worth reading up about before you go. If you're heading to Stykkishólmur it's worth the detour.

Beautiful location, but our group was hiking it in the wind and rain. I turned around and went back down. That wind will take your confidence away! Loved the location however, and got some great photos.

A short hike up the mountain. Follow the ruins up the mountain and you will reach the top in a short while. However, be careful during wet weather as the ground could be soft and slippery. The area is scenic with the church. There is...More

Try to stop here on your way to Stykkisholmur. It's a quick and relatively easy hike for anyone in decent shape. The views are the best you'll get, especially on a nice day

Since I was there maybe two years ago, they seem to have blocked off the official route up the hill, which should, according to the myth, start at the grave of Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir beside the church. They were probably getting too many tourists prancing through...More

Its a fairly historical mountain (really just a large hill) with an easy hike to the top for great views of the surrounding valley and mountains. Really good way to spend an hour. Highly recommend.

It's a very small mountain, and the car park is right at the base. 10 minutes up, 10 minutes at the top to look at the view, 10 minutes down!
