I booked this walk on our day of arrival so I would have an overview of Reykjavik for the rest of our stay. Our guide met us,on time at the stone pillars. He was informative and gave us a decent account of Reykjavic , now and historically. Sometimes I had trouble hearing him but that could have been just me. While I was functioning on a 5 hour flight and an hour of sleep out of the previous 24 hours, I found the walk was at a good pace, not leisurely nor too fast. I think I would book this again if I return to Iceland. I have found during my world travels that each guide (of the same tour) has their own "take" on things and I like to hear different perspectives.

This was a fantastic private tour! William was very knowledgeable and accommodating--willing to make extra (or fewer) stops as required. It was a great way to see the Golden Circle. Pick up at the cruise port was prompt. We made an interesting stop at the geothermal power plant, saw volcanic craters, beautiful scenery, the National Park, and even had a tour of a geothermal bakery!
We would absolutely recommend "Our" Friends in Reykjavik. They were also very responsive (even with the time difference) to emails and were very quick to answer questions or concerns.

We booked this tour after seeing it mentioned elsewhere and my niece is cat mad.

Really enjoyed the tour, the host was great, telling lots of stories about cats, mythology and Icelandic history and if course we got to meet some cats.

The visit to the car cafe also includes a hot drink and some Icelandic treats to try which was a lovely surprise.

Would definitely recommend this tour!

Was really unsure about booking this as I don't eat meat but was assured there were always vegetarian options. The veggie 'options' were a lamb broth with the lamb sieved out and a dry, cold hot dog bun (no sausage obviously) with just assorted relishes. A complete, expensive waste of money which my meat eating husband didn't really enjoy either. Feel furiously conned as other food tours seem to have excellent reviews.

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your experience with our Food tour. We make it clear that our tour's focus is based on traditional Icelandic Food. Icelandic traditional Food is focused on Meat, Fish, and Dairy. However we are lucky that nearly all restaurants in Iceland offer vegetarian options and had several vegetarians on our tours that have fortunately liked it. I am not quite sure what the broth you are describing as it's normally a pure vegetarian soup at the places we visit, but I will surely look into what could have happened here. Again I'm sorry for your experience but I hope the guide was good so at least you got good knowledge from the tour even though you felt the vegetarian food provided was subpar. Could you please send me when you did the tour with us so I can go over this with our guide and understand better what went down? Did you let us know about your dietary restrictions beforehand? Regards Valur

I can't say enough about our food tour with Ester. The weather wasn't ideal when we went but we figured we'd be in and out of places to warm up and it worked out that way. Ester was, in a single word, WONDERFUL. She provided anecdotes, personal experiences, history and suggestions for so many different aspects of Icelandic life. I take a walking or food tour whenever I travel, and I have never been guided through the grocery store. That may not seem a big deal for some people, but local stores are something that intrigue me as it's a view into the food culture of a place in a way. Ester pointed out things you wouldn't otherwise notice and our stops on the tour were tucked away spots with absolutely delicious food. You do try the fermented shark, but if you follow Ester's tips for doing so you'll be fine. You get an overall lay of the land in downtown Reykjavik, which is always a plus.

We were six couples in the mid 70’s and all of us truly enjoyed our private tour to Reykjavik. We took the Golden Circle and the city tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and new exactly how to make the tour exciting and taking into consideration our age. He was a true professional. He had a strong desire to ensure our safety and answered every question. Iceland is the NEW destination and we will recommend your company to all our friends!

We went on the local food walking tour with Bardi as our guide. It was a lot of fun, and we learned a lot about Icelandic culture as well as the food. There were four stops with different types of food – can’t say we loved it all (thinking specifically about the fermented shark), but we were glad to learn about the local customs and foods.

Stefan lead us on a brew tour. He was thoroughly enjoyable and informative. Icelanders are THE BEST, and the language makes COMPLETE SENSE, unlike English! LOL. We had lesson the languages and customs and got our first introduction to the 13 Santa Clauses. Got introduced to some local beers & met another couple on the tour

My son and I went on the Reykjavik food tour with Bardi today, January 6, 2023. The foods we got to sample were excellent and varied. We enjoyed them all, except for the fermented shark! Bardi is very knowledgeable, funny, and very handsome. :). We learned a lot from him and enjoyed our time very much. Thank you Bardi, and Your Friend in Reykjavik for a wonderful experience.

Lovely foodie walking tour of Reykjavik with Stefan.
This tour was fantastic with a real ‘flavour’ of the capital and culture through food and traditions. We were so lucky to be on this tour and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Our guide was amazing and he made it extra special with his obvious enthusiasm for his job and the city.
It’s a little expensive but worth every kroner! We tasted so many foods and heard lovely stories that will stay with us forever. Thanks Stefan.
