We've rented a camping kit (tent + self-inflating mattress + cooking set + stove) and a 4G internet hotspot for 4 days.
The picking up and dropping off process is very easy. The ICE shop is very well located, and you can easily park the car nearby.
All the equipment was in good conditions and working properly.
TENT
Had some signs of wear (such as some repair patches on the base lining) that didn't interfere with it's usage. Nonetheless the pegs could be of better quality (more robust). The tent doesn't include a peg hammer so think about bringing one with you or will have to mcgyver it out. (suggestion: ICE could take in consideration adding a peg hammer to each tent.)
SELF-INFLATING MATTRESS
Did what it was supposed to do. Easy to unwind, easy to roll up.
4G HOTSPOT
Worked great, internet coverage was good all over the southern and western part of the country, at least in the inhabited areas.
STOVE
Easy to use, worked has expected. However we've ordered the stove plus a 220g Gas canister, and on the pick up we're delivered two almost empty gas canisters (one of 100gr another of 220gr). The little one was not enough to boil 400ml of water. The larger one did the job (boil 2000ml of water) but for the last meal the gas was not enough. The fire keep turning off probably derived of low gas pressure on the cannister (almost empty). The two almost empty cannisters clearly were not enough for the 4 days we've rented.
Don't get me wrong, I applaud the usage of the cannisters to its end, but you have to make sure clients get enough gas for the days they've rented the stoves since they've paid for the gas.

While hiking in Iceland the Northface boots I brought with me broke. Iceland Camping Equipment let me rent a very sturdy pair of hiking boots for a very reasonable price. They really came through for me! Took the boots on a glacier hike! Upon pick up and dropoff Stefan was very nice and kind. He let me try the boots on in the store. And though I didn't need it this time, the pick up/drop off after hours feature would be very useful. Would use again!

Super convenient, friendly, and efficient service. My brother and I rented a tent and a stove. The tent was easy to put up and easy to take down. They included a mallet to help drive in stakes. A little heavy, but they have a lightweight option as well. It would have cost more to check in our tent bag, so this was a great alternative. Stove was also great to use. The 24/7 pick up/drop off room is essential because if you're traveling on a budget like us (bus & hitchhiking), then you often don't know when you'll get back into Reykjavik. Definitely using them again the next time I return to Iceland!

Unfortunately we have had a bad experience with Iceland Camping Equipment recently. Therefore we suggest not to rent poles with them. From the 2 pairs that we rented, only 2 poles were fully adjustable and one of these poles broke rather soon after we started to use it. When we gave them feedback, we received a disappointing reaction, no reimbursement for the paid rent for the poles and they claimed that it was our fault and that we should have checked when we collected them ... So our suggestion: bring your own poles to Iceland and therefore you have to check-in your luggage, but in that case at least you can use poles... which we couldn't....

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback - we're sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience renting with us. The poles that you rented were brand new and we check all equipment before it is given out to each customer. When we prepared your order to be picked up, all of the poles were in good condition and working as they should be. As we discussed it's unfortunately very likely that they broke due to user error. We did not charge any fees for returning broken equipment, but again - as discussed - are not able to offer refunds when the issue is down to user error. We hope that you otherwise enjoyed your stay in Iceland and had a safe trip home. Kind regards, Iceland Camping Equipment

3 friends and I have been in Iceland for a 20-days roadtrip around Iceland and we rent all camping equipment (tent Vango 4p, electric cooler, gas/stove and cooking set) except sleeping bag and mat at Iceland Camping Equipment to avoid taking it on the plane.
First contact with them was good: website offers everything we need for camping and it’s easy to book and pay. The only small damper is that we have to pay directly the full amount of the rent at the booking time.
After booking we received a confirmation by e-mail and even some nice advices for our trip.
At arrival, everything was ready. The people were nice and we didn’t make detailed check of the equipment.
During the trip, tent supports the Iceland weather (we were lucky to not have rain and wind during all nights), was easy to mount/dismount but a bit small for 4 people, half of the pegs were distorted and the doors zip had some trouble to close correctly. The stove was a bit rusty but work well and the cooking set was a bit cumbersome and not very clean.
All this details may have been negligible if at the check-out the people were more comprehensive: we had to pay 30€ because 1cm of a seam of the bag of the tent was broken!! This default (probably due to the normal wear of the bag) was so negligible that we even not notice it during our entire 20-days trip. We are even not sure if it wasn’t there before we take the tent. We were quite surprised and disappointed by the different behaviour between check-in and check-out.

So if you go there take care during the check-in…

We just got home from our much dreamed trip to Iceland, and we used their service to rent a portable WiFi and a GoPro for our 8 days in the country. We thought it was important for us to have a good, reliable WiFi connection to be able to communicate, even in some very remote parts of the country. The equipment worked great all over the north, east and south parts of Iceland where we traveled, and the whole process of reserving and paying online, and then the self pick-up and dropp-off, was very easy and smooth. I recommend it to anyone traveling to Iceland; the staff is very friendly and helpful. Thanks for everything!

Iceland Camping Equipment is such a wonderful company to rent your camping needs from. The 4G wifi router was a must to have on our Ring Road adventure in Iceland. The most convenient part of it all is we were able to pick up and drop off the rental equipment after hours, which was clutch for our 2AM arrival to Reykjavik. We will definitely be renting from them whenever we go back to Iceland!

Item Hired: Women’s Hiking Boots.

Upon arriving to Iceland, I quickly realised my sneakers were not going to be suitable - I needed non-slip, waterproof & warm hiking boots that covered the ankle. I visited a few hiking shops, but couldn’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on a pair of boots I’d never wear again. Instead, I Googled rental options and was delighted to find Iceland Camping Equipment. I ordered the boots online then picked them up within 20 minutes! They offer a 24/7 drop off service, which is great.

I could not imagine my time in Iceland without these boots - they were a life saver during day trips and hikes. Obviously they had been well worn, but this made them comfortable without any “wearing in” blisters. Cheers!

I found this great camping equipment rental shop at Baronsstigur 5. Coming up the street from the sea, it's on the 1st corner on the left. There's not a lot of signage yet - but it is coming.
It's up on the 1st floor. Ignore that it looks like a block of flats or offices.
I picked up a great pair of walking boots as my sneakers were just not good enough on the ice & snow. It's mainly online bookings, but as my hotel was close by I walked up & the very lovely young man fitted me out with a great pair of boots on the spot. They have a very handy 24 hour pick up & drop off box in the entrance to the garage next door. Highly recommended.
