This is a must if you are visiting Iceland. This was my second trip to Iceland and first trip to Landmanannalaugar. We were very happy with everything including our guide who kept us updated on how far we were and provided cool facts about Iceland. A visit to the highlands was beautiful and after a refreshing hike we took a dip in a geothermal bath close by. Highly recommend this service.

My partner and I booked in for the Landmannalaugar & Hekla Volcano Private Super Jeep Tour at the start of our two week self-drive Iceland holiday. Turned out to be a good decision as we learnt a great deal about the country, culture and driving rules which helped set us up for the rest of our trip. Our guide was an older Icelandic gentlemen by the name of Steinar. He was an excellent guide – very knowledgeable about Iceland (including stories from his earlier years), had a good sense of humour and took care in ensuring our comfort and safety throughout the day. We really enjoyed the itinerary and saw some amazing scenery and had a real taste of the diversity in interior Iceland.

We arrived back later than planned on this tour (our fault as we had taken a wrong turn on our hike) but Steinar was very accommodating and patient and ensured we still saw the sights despite official touring hours ending. I highly recommend this tour and it is worthwhile taking the private option - lovely to experience the secluded highlands without the crowds.

Minor note: My actual booking was made via the Landmannalaugar Tours website but my ticket showed Iceland Safari as the provider. Looks like Landmannalaugar Tours may have contracted out to Iceland Safari.

The story of our adventure had various highs and lows, with a story too long and insane to describe here. Would absolutely do it again, and would recommend. Cannot give five stars because while, in an email exchange with them prior to the journey, I was assured "nothing can stop our super jeep" (i was worried about rain/weather forecast), we learned that a giant rock popping a tire can absolutely stop the super jeep (for a few hours anyway).
Our tour guide (Martin) was a very nice, interesting, funny, engaging guy - definitely knew the area, secret paths to take, was completely fearless, and we really loved his jokes. We saw so much beauty, took hundreds of photos, really had an amazing time and a really awesome story to tell after it was all finally over! Would rate higher except we simply cannot due to the tire issue. Only other criticisms: there was a promise of a 'hike' but we really didn't have enough time to do much hiking, until the popped tire forced us to walk a ways but that wasn't exactly supposed to be part of the 'experience' -- or was it (?!), and when we finally arrived at Landmannalaugar my wife really, really had to use the restroom. Problem with that is, in order to pee at Landmannalaugar you have to purchase a day pass (equivalent of about $5 US). While this certainly isn't a lot of money, it is a bit of a steep price to pay in order to urinate once. We recommend that Landmannalaugar Tours finds a way to offer their guests complimentary bathroom passes (particularly for the women who may not want to squat outdoors behind some rocks)! After the money spent on the tour it'd be nice to let us use the restrooms for free.
Unfortunately telling the full story would be very, very long and I do not want to give away too many surprises to future guests. Needless to say it was bizarre, beautiful, terrifying...many many feelings all wrapped into one!

There is a great day hike loop that starts going up into the lava rock (on the trail that heads on the falls or up higher), goes by the geothermal area, then back through the lava area and drops down by a rushing stream looping back to the campground. All together, it is only probably about four km, but we spent at least three hours enjoying it. The steam in the geothermal area was eye catching, the moss covered rocks eerie, and the stream rushing through green, gray and caramel canyon walls stunning. The views of the mountains with snow in the crevices were beautiful. A variety of wildflowers were throughout the area. In early August, there were a couple of small patches of the snow that did not cause problems. The information booth gave us the map to find the loop. I appreciated an earlier Trip Advisor post letting us know about the day hike. It could be extended by walking to the waterfall, or further up passed the geothermal. We took a Trex bus in from Hella. Of all the beautiful places we saw in Iceland, this was our favorite.

We are a family of 4 (parents with teenager-boys) and we booked a tour to Landmannalaugar. Our guide picked us up in Reykjavik. The initial contact was a perfect start in a perfect day! þórður (the guide) was an excellent driver and also really good in telling stories about Iceland and the special spots he showed us! He also took care of things like toilet-stops and there was also time to have lunch in a very nice place. He was really friendly and whenever we come back to Iceland - what we will do for sure - we'll make another tour with þórður! Highly recommended and one of our highlights in Iceland!

If you have a guide who knows their way around the area, then the sights unfold constantly. I thoroughly recommend this trip and would not hesitate to go again. The views are amazing.

OMG. This was the highlight of our trip! Our tour guide (I would love to tell you his name, but I couldn't spell it if my life depended upon it. I think he was the owner.), was amazing. We did the private jeep tour and a total of 4 of us. He was so personable, fun and seemed to go out of his way to show us what we wanted to see. I would HIGHLY recommend doing a Landmannalaugar tour with them.

We wanted to see Landmannalaugar and initially thought about taking the standard bus to go there. But we have a 3 years old daughter and thought that the bus would be too long for her. This excursion was really amazing. The guide was great and we learned a lot of things about the volcano and Iceland. Our daughter also loved it, especially when the jeep crossed the river and when we went for a bath in the hot spring at Landmannalaugar.
I would definitely recommend it!

My adult daughter and I went on a super jeep tour of the Thorsmork and Eyjafjallajokull area - and it was absolutely fantastic and the memorable part of our visit to Iceland! Our guide Oly met us in Hella where we were staying, and he took us on a wonderful tour of the Thorsmork valley. He showed us hidden treasures everywhere we went. We hiked into hidden waterfalls and beautiful gullies that one would never suspect in that vast lava land. As it was a nice day, Oly showed us a summit we could climb for a spectacular view of the valley, and dropped us off at one trail head. He drove the jeep to the other side of of the mountain to Porsmork and met us as we came down the mountain and we had a great lunch at the Porsmork campground restaurant (which was included in the cost of the tour). Our guide was well-informed, easy-going, and it was really fun seeing him navigate the jeep through and across rivers. Landmannalaugar Tours was also very accommodating with our trip and always very responsive. They really worked to meet all our needs. Thanks for a wonderful experience all around! I'd recommend this to anyone visiting Iceland!
