    Stroll in the Park
Beautiful large lake at one end of town teeming with many, many different varieties of seabirds ,swans and ducks, information boards dotted around one end of the lake tell you the different species. To walk at a stroll around the lake (anticlockwise) takes under an hour and is well worth the effort, passing the birds, then the government building, then strolling past the large detached houses on the far side as you now pass the residential area, then through the parkland with various statues of important/famous people. Back over a bridge, dissecting the lake in two and walking back up along Laekjargata(main thoroughfare) to your starting point, very exhilarating! Fabulous to watch the sun setting.

Prominent lake close to the centre of Reykjavik
Tjörnin is a prominent lake close to Reykjavik City Centre. The lake is quite scenic and is a nice area to walk to from the city. There are some notable landmarks dotted around the lake including Reykjavik City Hall and various museums. Unfortunately when we were in Reykjavik the weather was inclement so we were not able to explore it as much as we wanted. We hopefully can visit it again when the weather is more agreeable.

    Nice to stroll
Nice lake in downtown Reykjavik surrounded by flowers . Nice to walk, to relax and to enjoy the quietness. I hate the grey building of the city hall on the bank of this lake - Another example of ugly new architucture in this city.

Great Place for a Morning Run
This small lake was near my hotel and I found it to be a great place for a morning run. There is a road that divide the lake into a north section and a south section. I preferred running around the south section compared to the north section. There are benches and a few interesting sculptures next to the lake.

Lovely Lake by the City Hall
Tjornin is a small lake in downtown Reykjavik. It's set just by the modern Reykjavik City Hall. After visiting the City Hall (free entry) we took a very pleasant walk around the lake. Many ducks and swans and terrific city views from its banks. Highly recommended if weather's good.

Watching the ducks slide across the ice was one of the highlights of my iceland trip. I love ducks and I spent a long time around this lake just sitting and watching. Great views walking around it - lovely seeing the city from a different angle.

We visited in winter when the pond was frozen and took the opportunity to walk out onto it. Take an Icelandic flag and wave it about frantically while texting work colleagues who can then watch you on the webcam.
lots of fun. oh yes, feed the geese if you feel like it.
There is a very nice little cafe in the theatre near the North end.

Known as the "pond" this lake offers great views all around of Reykjavik and has some great bird watching opportunities as well. As with almost anywhere in this city, Hallgrimskirkja is visible in the distance. Lots of fun photo opportunities and a relaxing stroll can be had at this pond. If you walk slowly, it will take about 45 minutes to walk all the way around the pond. Well worth taking the time to do this as you get to see many different buildings and birds along the way.

My husband and I spent time here on foot on two occasions during our our visit to Reykjavik. Too wonderful to just pass by in transit! Bordered by lovely residences and many other must-see sights... such as Reykjavik City Hall, Domkirkjan and Parliament House.

Beautiful lake in the center of downtown Reykjavík with lots of ducks. The ducks like to be fed, most people give them bread. But please don't feed the ducks from may-september because that will attract the seagulls that also eat the small ducklings.

Lovely lake to sit and watch the sunset! Nice to stroll around as well! Very picturesque. All the geese and ducks come to greet you (beg for food) but they’re fine and leave you alone after a while. Swiftly left after someone brought out some bread and a swarm of seagulls appeared (pictured below) but thats seagulls for ya! :)
