We booked to the ESCOBA escape room and was not the best experience. As we walked into we was not greeted and asked to wait for another group to arrive to follow rules - this other group was for another room and were not English speaking so the rules and game info was given twice.

Once finished we entered the room to start the game, we was told to Message on the phone in the room for help, when we got to a hold and needed help our first few messages were ignored so we tried to call this was then declined. Later we received a call and was given the clue, at this point we was quite disappointed. Another hold we asked for help by call again as we this was the way to get through to them - on the call we was told "can I call you back in a minute I am just busy sorting something" this was from our host! Three minutes later we receive the call. On the phone the attitude was not appropriate and made this experience terrible.

Lastly towards the end of the game out codes/ clues didn't match up as the wrong padlocks were not working or they was not working right and very very stiff.

We would not recommend this and most certainly would not be going back again!

We did the Bank Heist escape room. We normally love escape rooms, and enjoy trying out a new one when we're on holiday - but we still need a clue or two to keep us moving! We hit a bump about 20 minutes in, and requested help on the clue phone several times, but got no response until 55 minutes in (with five minutes left to play), so spent half our time there bored and frustrated. Ironically, the only thing that kept us moving for a while was that the host hadn't got rid of the previous team's working, and they'd cracked one crucial clue we hadn't! Perhaps you'd be fine if you can manage without clues. However, some of the puzzles were also poorly designed - we were able to use one key to open a box it was not designed for (and not its original box) - so even the best puzzle solvers are likely to hit a dead end or two. I should say that at 55 minutes the host finally responded to us, and offered us extra time "as there'd been an issue with the clue phone"; but the quality of support improved for one minute when he noticed us at our wits end, and then immediately fell away again. We cut our losses and gave up. A really disappointing experience.

Had a rather bad experience where the clue system got messed up and we got messages that weren't supposed to be sent to us. Wrote a negative review and the owner called me at work (found out through facebook where I worked and rang them up and asked for me). Highly unprofessional.

I am very sorry that this was your take on the call. I just wanted to know what you were unhappy with so we could try to fix it. Hope to see you again.

This was my eleventh escape room (8th venue), which I did with my hubby and two friends. The room itself was ok, but this was the most disappointing venue I've been to. It had a cheap feel to it, like trying to have the least amount of staff available. I think I heard a member of staff say that each GM had 2 or 3 rooms to watch, and the briefing was done for all 6 rooms at the same time! So each participants got the story for 5 rooms that he was not attending! Due to this the briefing did not start until the last participant was there, like 8.10 (we should have started at 8). Would recommend they start the rooms at diffirent times to be able to give a more personal experience and thus more fun. And it is also the most expensive ER I've been to.

By now, you know what to expect in an escape room: you get locked in a room full of puzzles that, when solved, will allow you to get out of the room, but only if you complete these challenges within the 60-minute time limit. Some are better than others, some are pretty atrocious, and some are perfectly average. All of them make you think but not all of them are necessarily fun. Fortunately for Reykjavik Escape, their set-up is great, and we would put this room (The Mafia) in the upper half of the rooms we've done.

We arrived for our 4:00 room on a Saturday and a gentleman greeted us right away. He was prompt and professional, and gave us a brief overview of what to expect. One thing that surprised us is that when we booked the room, we "booked the room." You know how some rooms have spots for eight+ people, but you may only be a team of four, and you could get grouped together with another team of four? That's not the case here; we booked the room, and the three of us did it on our own. That's kind of cool for a change of pace.

With our cell phones taken (nothing that can take pictures can go into the room, which makes sense), we were given another cell phone. This acted as our life line for clues during our time in the room, and you'll want to ask how to work it before the game begins. I actually really liked this clue system. We've been in rooms where the clues come in on monitors (the majority of rooms), and rooms where we had to use walkie-talkies for clues (something that did not work that well). The cell phone allowed for both text messages and phone calls, and the system was great.

Beyond that, our room was a blast. I don't want to give anything away, but this was the first room we've done where a laptop needed to be used. (Don't worry; what you'll be doing is in English and Icelandic.) With three clues, we managed to get out in 45 minutes, and had a great time along the way.

And we wanted to come back, despite our agenda not lining up with a return visit. They offered a discount if you come back to do another room within the same week, and that's a terrific deal being that there were a couple more rooms to see here that caught our eye. But even if you just do one room, and even if you are an escape room veteran or new to the concept, you will have a fantastic time.

Tried the Taken room with 3 first timers. Had a blast. Good room, possible to solve as a first try.
Bit expensive and a not working whiteboard pen. Else everything was great, I would go back and would recommend it to others.

A group of four of us decided to give the Reykjavik Escape a chance, since we had never done anything like it but had heard of similar things in our respective home towns.

Needless to say we weren't exactly filled with confidence when they told us the average success rate was about 35% with hints from staff and about 1% without hints from staff.

We chose to do the Prison Break experience. You get a max of 60 minutes to figure out the clues in the room to get out of it. You also get a phone that the staff can use to give you hints or that you can call to request a hint.

Our group was able to finish it in about 35 minutes without any hints or assistance. The staff seemed suitably impressed.

The clues in the room were clever and challenging. Would definitely go back again and try their other three rooms.

Had a great time after doing 'Taken' that we had to do another! Rooms had a nice story behind them and their own challenges, a lot of codes to figure out but the means behind them were unique in their own ways.
