There is one word above all others that screams 'Reykjavik Nightlife': Kaffibarinn. Not everybody loves the place, but everyone knows exactly where it is and would be sad if it ever closed down. But there is very little risk of that, if the queues outside are anything to go by. Kaffibarinn (along with dearly departed Sirkus) is probably THE place responsible for creating Reykjavik's party town reputation. Its heady mix of hyper-uber-cool music, people in trend-setting clothes, late night drunkenness and not nearly enough space for all the dancing sweaty bodies... well, that's really what it's all about. It was in Kaffibarinn that the distinctive 101 music taste and fashion sense were born, and from there they took over the world (in a modest sort of way).

The place is open for coffee, beer and something to eat during the day. Disc jockey every night with various music. Mostly House during the weekends.

They don't like photography inside the bar. It has been like that for many years and they do like their privacy. It's nothing personal.

Nice and quiet

We popped in here for a quiet midweek evening drink. Prices are reasonable during Happy Hour. It was nice and quiet. Recommended.

Read some really good reviews about this place but to be honest it was pretty ordinary. The best thing was the happy hour drinks price. It had a bit of a dated feel to it, certainly not the hip place it claims to be. The lady who was working the bar wasn't super friendly and made us feel not very... More

Cosy and welcoming. Conveniently located. Clean loos (but take care with the his and hers signs, I saw quite a few mistakes!). Reduced price draught beers between 4 and 8.

Used to go there a lot and always had great fun. The place is rather small, but always pays good music, has good DJ's and the highest fun point is late at night, probably between 3-5AM. It is the place that Damon Albarn, Blur singer, always visited and even bought a share of when he spent a lot of time... More

Stop here after our dinner on the first night. Super excited to get the night going and visit our first Iceland bar. Was super crowded and bar tenders were not super friendly. The men in the bar didn't feel the need to ask us to move or step to the side. Instead thought shoving women was a better approach. I... More

Defo visit here if you are out for a few drinks. Good beer. Small pub with locals and tourists alike. Expect to pay about €10 for a pint of beer. Apparently Damon Albarn is part owner of the pub too!

Little, local and great drink assortment. Started and ended many of my nights here! So intimate you're sort of forced to talk to everyone and I loved that.

I've only been in for early evening drinks, reduced prices for hippy hour, so it's always been quite quiet. Which is ideal if you're just looking for a relaxing pint. Has a bit of an old English style pub feel with plenty of character.

It is a happening place at night with great live music. In the afternoon, you can stop in for a coffee, too. It has the charm of "very old."

My wife and I visited almost every night of the week for drinks - visitors from all over the world plus numerous locals meet to just have a great old time. Superb bartenders and beer/wine.
