There is one word above all others that screams 'Reykjavik Nightlife': Kaffibarinn. Not everybody loves the place, but everyone knows exactly where it is and would be sad if it ever closed down. But there is very little risk of that, if the queues outside are anything to go by. Kaffibarinn (along with dearly departed Sirkus) is probably THE place responsible for creating Reykjavik's party town reputation. Its heady mix of hyper-uber-cool music, people in trend-setting clothes, late night drunkenness and not nearly enough space for all the dancing sweaty bodies... well, that's really what it's all about. It was in Kaffibarinn that the distinctive 101 music taste and fashion sense were born, and from there they took over the world (in a modest sort of way).

The place is open for coffee, beer and something to eat during the day. Disc jockey every night with various music. Mostly House during the weekends.

They don't like photography inside the bar. It has been like that for many years and they do like their privacy. It's nothing personal.

The type where everybody feels welcome. Cosy and cool. Great selection of local and imported beer. Happy hour every day.

Visited Kaffibarinn on a Saturday night last summer. Got here after already having a few drinks and this place was a bit of a buzz-kill. It was very quaint and I'm sure during the off-season it's much more comfortable. Very small, was a very busy night and nowhere to sit. Music was way too loud for us to stay long.... More

Good vibes and a must see if you want to party in Iceland/Reykjavík. House music dominant. Age group 25-45+. Prepare for small spaces and sweaty atmosphere but good conversations.

This is the bar I most eagerly awaited visiting. It had a very cool vibe that feels more like an old pub with a mix of some good music. Seemed to have some locals in it, but mainly tourists. Very hipster, but casual and approachable. Liked the little nooks to sit. Fun spot. Would definitely visit for a beer and... More

A good place for a rest from walking in Reykjavik. No one rushes you. Great coffee or tea in nice surroundings.

Spent much of my time here dancing my socks off to slick tunes. This is a hip spot for the trendiest tourists and Icelanders alike. Be prepared to see lots of artists hanging about. Exciting spot!

Enjoyed our time here. There was DJ later on the Thursday evening we went. Bit of a buzz, but not extraordinary, just enjoyable. The Brio beer is noteworthy.

Found this place by accident, wandering Reykjavik. Good happy hour beer prices, and they were serving pasta with toast for free outside. It was overflow into the street, a really fun, happy crown.

Just off the main streets, is a charming cafe/bar. It has a good happy hour special, and seems popular with locals. I think this is where founding hipsters were born ;) - it puts Williamsburg NY to shame!

They have large collection of beers and fancy coffee. Cheap beer at happy hour, before 20:00. Inside is bigger than it seems from outside.
