It’s our second trip to Iceland. This trip was very different from our last trip in summer time. Our both trip were arranged by Liga who had made our trip very efficient and unforgettable. We also had an experienced tour guide/driver despite weather was not too cooperative. We had to missed northern light and glacier walk. But we had no regret.

We decided to go with Road Trip Iceland and after communicating with Bragi we amended one night in the RT10 self drive option. From arriving in Reyjavik everything ran like clockwork. The 1st night was spent in Reyjavik, we were then picked up in the morning at the hotel by Avis and taken to our hire car. The 1st day was spent travelling along the South Coast stopping off at hot pools, waterfalls and beaches. We were booked in The Fosshotel Nupar for 2 nights. The 1 st night we had a good display of the Northern Lights. The 2nd day we drove to the Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, an amazing sight and Skaftafell national park. The hotel was excellent and ate in the restaurant on the 2nd night which was great meal. The next day we drove back towards Reyjavik stopping off at more waterfalls and Lava Centre. We spent the night in Hella. The next day we travelled on to the Golden Circle. Stopping at Kerid Volcano, more waterfalls and the Geysirs. We stayed at Geysir Hotel, which was amazing. We dove to the Secret Lagoon for an hour in the hot spring spa. That night the Northern Lights were amazing. The following day was spent around Thingvellir National Park and back to Reyjavik for the final night. An amazing holiday with all the hotels and airport transfers and any additional information including suggested itinery and marked up roads map, to make the holiday run smoothly all organised by Bragi. Thanks

After thorough research of the many travel companies that offer self-drive tour services around the country, I found Iceland Road Trip to be an incredible value both from a cost perspective and for the services provided. They handled the car rental reservation, booked my hotels for me, and booked tours, like a glacier hike and snowmobile ride. They made it very, very easy for someone who had never been to Iceland before. One day there was severe weather, and they booked me a second night in the same hotel since the roads were closed to get to the next hotel. When a glacier hike tour company changed the schedule hike time and I wasn't able to make the new time, Iceland Road Trip refunded me. All of this was handled quickly and painlessly. The itinerary for the self-drive tour was quite detailed, and each night I was able to plot out my course for sightseeing the next day per their suggestions. Overall, an excellent value for the money spent. Quick, honest, and helpful service! I saw an unfortunate review where someone gave them 1/5 stars because the reviewer didn't understand this was for a self-drive tour. That was clearly evident from the beginning when I booked with Iceland Road Trip. You pay for the service provided and the handling/reservation of logistics and arrangements (like lodging and where to drive and see from Point A to Point B on a given day). All I had to do was show up, not worry, and enjoy my time in a beautiful country. Would book from this company again 100%.

Response from Ólafur I, Manager at Iceland Road Trip - Day Tours

Dear Helgewhite We do in fact offer guided tours like guided day tours, longer guided tours and private guided tours along with the self drive tours you mention. These tours are all on our site. I'm sorry that you didn't find the guided tours you were looking for. We can't seem to find any booking or communication with you regarding this matter and we wished that you had contacted us so we could have pointed you in the right direction. We feel that it perhaps would have been more fair of you to contact us before writing this review so we would at least have had the chance to help you by point you in the right direction should you not have found the guided tours on our site. Regarding doing things your self instead of going through a travel agency depends on peoples personal preference . Peoples interests and needs are very different while some prefer the comfort of having a guide and others prefer the flexibility of a self drive tour, so we cater to both by having wide variety of guided tours and self drive tours. If our tours and what we offer do not fit your plans or what you need you can go though other agency or just do it your self. You mention that a self drive is something that you can just do online which is of course correct and no one would deny that. However there are a few benefits of booking through a travel agent worth considering, some of those are listed below but reading the other reviews from our wonderful guests probably says more than our own words can. Benefits of working with a travel agency on your self drive trip - Save time on bookings - Collaborate with a a local exert, they can often answer questions more quickly and help narrow down choices in regards what to do in your time frame and your interests instead of reading countless different sites and blog posts - 24/7 emergency phone number to call. For many it is nice knowing that you have someone in Iceland helping you out if anything comes up. - Get an itinerary with recommended places to see - Get a map with the recommended route, accommodation and activities marked in. Google maps and GPS can calculate the shortest distance but not necessary the most safe or most scenic route. - There are many hotels, car rentals and activity providers in Iceland. Certified Travel agencies like us know from experience which ones are certified and have their licences and insurances in order, which ones are reliable and responsible suppliers. Those who are not quickly get excluded.

Iceland should be on everyone's bucket list. Using Iceland Road Trip to make all arrangements should be top choice in achieving that bucket list trip! We just returned from 11 magical days in Iceland which Liga arranged so perfectly. We chose the Northern Lights package and were lucky to see the Lights 6 nights - mostly thanks to the perfect locations of each accommodation (partially thanks to sun doing its thing, of course! Lol!). We booked last minute but despite that, Liga arranged everything quickly and made the necessary adjustments to meet our travel needs. Communication was excellent and we even got a "welcome home" email after our trip. We are looking forward to our return trip, hopefully sooner than later, and will definitely use Iceland Road Trip again as they make it so easy!!
